Another thought that has crossed my mind more than one time.
Many here remember when this board and the Bulldog Nation were having a horrible time in JAX for far too long. Had gotten to the point that the staunchest supporters were asking for scalps.
When that turned around, many of those that were up in arms at that time have seemingly backed off of their stance on where our program should be.
Don't get me wrong, kicking the gators is more important to me than some of the other games we play each year, won't list them. All of us know the "others".
Appears to me that even though we seem to be taking care of business in JAX, other parts of our football team have slipped back into the same area we were in prior to the many losses to the gators.
Sometimes it appears that our leaders were reaching rather than planning. Over a period of time as I mentioned above, it has settled in again that we need/needed something "positive" to happen in Athens.
Some on this board like offense and speak to that part of the game on occasion. Others like myself have always leaned toward the defensive side. Some of us older folks were brought up in the SEC and it was preached to every team in the SEC that defense had to be played. It was the "old three yards and a cloud of dust" offensive way of playing football.
Again I have gotten my hopes up with the defensive side of the ball. I see and hear things since Pruitt/Rocker arrived that bring back some great memories. While I am not blind to the fact that change sometimes requires "time in grade", really on board with this new group. What they are doing is . . . . teaching and building, not rebuilding. Far cry from what I have witnessed in the past 13/14 years.
Folks down my way that I have running conversations with are aware of the changes in Athens. Talking about some folks that have coached, played and supporters of our team and the gators. The Florida folks got to see first hand what Pruitt did in Tallahassee. Some say that he coached a defensive unit that had only to play in the ACC. Well, just who the hell beat the SEC representative in the National Championship Game? Don't really care about the score, all that matters is the W.
My enthusiasm is not based on Mark Richt, that is not meant to be ugly. I believe we have enough coaching talent and player talent to make some serious noise in 2014. Game time not that far away, will be watching the recruiting closely up until that time. There are still some extremely good young men that will make us proud . . . . if we can land them. Know this, the group recruiting now as opposed to last few seasons, hands down a better job being done.
Just "chirping".
