yankeedawg1, maybe optimism x10. There are many cases where a different coach enters a program and results are seen quickly.
One thing that has been mentioned is the fact that FSU lost many players to the draft and graduation. My number might be wrong, but seems I read somewhere that 9 players left Tallahassee after the National Championship. Not talking about bench warmers either.
Gus Malzahn returned to Auburn, many of the same players on the team that were there prior to his return, we know how that has worked out.
I mention Gus Malzahn because Jeremy Pruitt's arrival in Athens reflects some of the same. Some players have messed up and some chose not to compete, but when we look over the defense, many returning players, returning players that have much potential.
Understandable what Mike Bobo said. He has been close to what Pruitt has done thus far in Athens, and of course he is aware of Pruitt's accomplishments with the FSU defense last season.
yd1, have felt for some time that a change was needed in Athens. Not going to go into the "whole thing" here again, but will say this. I was excited as all heck when grantham was hired. Was also excited about the grantham/Franklin face off in Nashville. At that point believed we had found one of the missing links. Don't need to say anything else about that.
Same thing that happened in Auburn is going to happen in Texas. From last season to the coming season in Texas, would not be surprised to see Charlie Strong come close or pull off another Gus Malzahn.
Coaching is teaching, along with teaching there must be "leadership". One does not work well without the other.
Another great get on Natrez Patrick yesterday. I crossed my fingers for him a couple of times in the recruiting site on this board. Doing the same thing now with Roquan Smith. These two young pups along with the existing players in Athens, Georgia will be hard to handle, regardless of the competition.
Couple of numbers on Roquan Smith's action on the football field.
2013: 100 tackles, 27 tackles for loss, six sacks, three forced fumbles, three interceptions, and two defensive touchdowns. 49 receptions, 702 receiving yards, and 11 touchdowns.
2012: 112 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, six interceptions, and five touchdowns.
One thing that I have noticed about some of Pruitt's selections . . . . Likes linebackers that can catch the football. To me, noticeable change, need only look back over the past few years.
My excitement today comes from the commitment of Natrez Patrick. A "giant" step in keeping high school talent at home. Hell yes, time for an old fart like myself to see "real change" not like we have heard before from coaches and those in D.C.
Offensive line anyone?
