We need more than just window dressing changes, so no problems here.

Pulled this piece from the link below. What really caught my attention was the fact that Leonard Floyd was not recruited by the "previous" defensive coordinator.

Our "previous" defensive coordinator was supposed to be all about getting to the quarterback, know what I mean, NFL style.

Will be interesting to see just how 2014 plays out for Leonard Floyd under our "current" defensive coordinator. Maybe Floyd and others will show what "real" defensive schemes and coaching produce.

One other thing, hope that Gurley "truly" comes back 100%. Sky is the limit for him. Give him some room offensive line.

EAST MONSTERS

1. Leonard Floyd, LB, Georgia -- During his first year on campus, Floyd led the Bulldogs with 6.5 sacks and was second with 22 quarterback hurries. Jordan Jenkins gets a lot of attention on this defense, but Floyd might have the most NFL talent out there. He's ferocious off the edge and should wreak plenty of havoc this season with even more teaching. Double-team him if you want to have a chance

I am sure many have seen the article below, what caught my eye is FSU played 3 freshmen DB's on their NC team

cause for a tad of optimism

"I was telling him: You better get ready to play," Bobo said. "(Pruitt's) not afraid to play young guys. Last year at Florida State they lost nine guys off their defense when he took it over. So he played nine new players, they finished No. 1 in the country and started three freshmen in the secondary. So some of the things he did last year he's gearing up to do this year."

yankeedawg1, maybe optimism x10. There are many cases where a different coach enters a program and results are seen quickly.

One thing that has been mentioned is the fact that FSU lost many players to the draft and graduation. My number might be wrong, but seems I read somewhere that 9 players left Tallahassee after the National Championship. Not talking about bench warmers either.

Gus Malzahn returned to Auburn, many of the same players on the team that were there prior to his return, we know how that has worked out.

I mention Gus Malzahn because Jeremy Pruitt's arrival in Athens reflects some of the same. Some players have messed up and some chose not to compete, but when we look over the defense, many returning players, returning players that have much potential.

Understandable what Mike Bobo said. He has been close to what Pruitt has done thus far in Athens, and of course he is aware of Pruitt's accomplishments with the FSU defense last season.

yd1, have felt for some time that a change was needed in Athens. Not going to go into the "whole thing" here again, but will say this. I was excited as all heck when grantham was hired. Was also excited about the grantham/Franklin face off in Nashville. At that point believed we had found one of the missing links. Don't need to say anything else about that.

Same thing that happened in Auburn is going to happen in Texas. From last season to the coming season in Texas, would not be surprised to see Charlie Strong come close or pull off another Gus Malzahn.

Coaching is teaching, along with teaching there must be "leadership". One does not work well without the other.

Another great get on Natrez Patrick yesterday. I crossed my fingers for him a couple of times in the recruiting site on this board. Doing the same thing now with Roquan Smith. These two young pups along with the existing players in Athens, Georgia will be hard to handle, regardless of the competition.

Couple of numbers on Roquan Smith's action on the football field.
2013: 100 tackles, 27 tackles for loss, six sacks, three forced fumbles, three interceptions, and two defensive touchdowns. 49 receptions, 702 receiving yards, and 11 touchdowns.

2012: 112 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, six interceptions, and five touchdowns.

One thing that I have noticed about some of Pruitt's selections . . . . Likes linebackers that can catch the football. To me, noticeable change, need only look back over the past few years.

My excitement today comes from the commitment of Natrez Patrick. A "giant" step in keeping high school talent at home. Hell yes, time for an old fart like myself to see "real change" not like we have heard before from coaches and those in D.C.

Offensive line anyone?

yd1, hard to explain how good I feel about McClendon taking over recruiting. Not to be ugly, but Natrez Patrick is another young pup that would not be coming to Athens had McClendon not been involved.

Feel that many parts of the coaching and recruiting staff have been attended to or at least we went in a different direction. Meaning, coaches that still relate to high school "coaches" as well as "players".

Don't want to see the higher ups let this group get away. Know it is too soon to be overly impressed, but when I look at the years after the National Championship and what we appear to have now, hands down this is the most solid group I can remember. Don't believe Clemson will line up against this defense and do some of the things that they did last season. Not that far away from game time.

Think you know that I have been "pro" Will Friend. Looking back, seems that we have had a cloud hanging over our program for far too long. Leadership has been missing.

I don't doubt that our offensive line players will give it all that they have. That is all one can ask for. My main thoughts are depth.
