So having a "good man" as HC is absolutely pointless.

(Sorry to keep bringing it up, but it's a point of contention between me, my deacon brother, and
some of my other friends at church... the "good man" argument still comes up regularly)

Wartdawg, I feel the same way you do about "bringing it up". Like you, it has to be brought up until something changes. Whatever or whomever that is, don't care. Fix it or replace it.

Really interesting reading the comments here and elsewhere. Going to post a link that some have probably read, worth looking at. One thing that got my attention in the lone comment to the article was . . . .

What other school has suspended a player because they didn’t meet their academic requirements by missing tutoring and academic reviews EVEN if they are passing the class? Not many I can assure you.

Statements like the one above tend to make me scratch my head in disgust. This is not about what other universities do or don't do. This is about what these four players did. Fourth grade comparison in my opinion.

Another one of those "Good Man" thingys. Four (4) players that have zero respect for the same system that the other players on campus are abiding by. "I think", who the heck knows at this point, Clemson is far, far away.

Reading the article, there are small hints that the players will not be dismissed. UGA will stay on the same path for at least 3 more years it appears.

Another thought on punishment. Again, in the Armed Services when someone messes up, and I consider this as being a "huge" mess up. Company commanders back in the day made the entire Company pay for the misdeeds of the few. Believe this would be a start in correcting the way punishment is doled out in Athens. Piss the Company off, someone will pay the price. After Company "showers" next step is the Brig.

Making the entire team share the punishment builds team work, character and more. If a single player is dismissed or otherwise can't play, that just opens up opportunity for someone else to play which, i hate to say it but, it does not build teamwork.

I get the premise entirely, but ya best be careful watch you wish for if you wish for punishing the entire team.

Kids already know they can go to LSU and get busted smoking pot 10 times without getting kicked off the team... start a group punishment thing and see what happens.

Sadly.... very sadly.. this isn't the military.

The military style option here that has the best chance is the good ole self regulation by their teammates. Those that toe the straight and narrow... those guys should express their frustration with the clowns on the practice field. Check yo Bibles... toeing the straight line is hard. It requires sacrifice... sometimes in the same area where these guys tried to get away with something. Those that do put forth the hard work and sacrifice to be a part of this team should be fairly PO'd. PO'd that any teammate would jeopardize our ability to build a team. As Steve noted... can't build a team when people we recruited to be a part of the team go flippin knucklehead and get kicked off the team!

God Bless and Go Dawgs

Appears to me that Commander Slive and his group have a lot to do with governing and self governing in the SEC. While he is able to garner the Disney bucks, can't seem to get a grip on other "issues". Basically it comes down to individual choice. We understand Richt's choice, all good men think that way . . . . right. Appears that Richt is the only "good man" in the SEC.

Step away from that, LSU, Auburn and others also play for the money. Thing is they seem to be getting those players that get caught 10 or so times and still produce on the field. LSU for example seems to get 99% of the players they "really want". Guess it follows along the Colorado rule, if they want it, someone will fulfill their "dreams". Would almost call 10 times legal.

Do believe it was mentioned that prior to allowing or letting the higher ups step in, there was the thought of the old "military shower". As you mentioned above Wartdawg . . . . The military style option here that has the best chance is the good ole self regulation by their teammates.

Appears to me that we are heading into a long, hot summer.
