Feelings on Job Security

When asking a direct question about the head coach, there should be a reason or reasons to qualify the yes or no. Started a thread for the yes or no. Feel obligated to list some of my personal reasons for doing so.

I look at the hiring and firing of coaches, as being very suspect.

Examples: richt on the willie martinez matter. All of us know the outcome, it was the way that the head coach dodged the issue as long as he did. He allowed his friendship to interfere with the good of the football team and fans.

Head coach under fire, lot of hot seat talk, and it was further along than some in Athens were admitting. The shuffling ended up with the hire of todd grantham. Many on this board bought into the hiring. What happed was this . . . . The grantham hiring moved the attention away from the head coach, thus keeping his place in the system. This is where I feel we were beginning to get jacked around. Did however get on board, thinking one more time, which for me lasted close to two years.

Hiring of grantham actually backfired on the head coach and the rest of us. We however, the fans, appeared to have a handle on the todd grantham thing before mark richt did. Coming apart at the seams, seat starting to heat up again, seat hotter than those in Athens like for the temperature to be. Could not have another drawn out affair, like the one between willie and todd. Several highly respected defensive coaches turned richt down. Some for different reasons, but turned the job offer down.

2013 Season blows up in the head coaches face. Noticeable uneasy feelings between richt and grantham. The pivoting starts with Lakatos leaving for personal reasons. Then we have grantham at this point looking to be fired. All of us watched him and know that he turned tail and ran. Got up the road and began to squawk, gutless wonders do that sort of thing.

Now richt is really faced with a huge problem, a problem in the remaining days of the recruiting season. Definitely under the gun to make a quick hire. He did, fastest mark richt has moved in his life. Hard to give up over 3 million dollars a year to walk the sidelines. 8-5 speaks for itself.

Has anyone seen a happier mark richt than the one that had a press conference with Jeremy Pruitt? I haven’t. Head coach was gushing. Again someone from outside the Athens area had saved his job.

Reasons for the above.

When Nick Saban loses an assistant coach, does not need to hire someone to save his job for him. Went so far as to hire Kiffin, like it or not, Nick Saban knows what he does as a college coach works.

While Saban is regarded as the best college coach at this point, there are many out there that are head and shoulders above mark richt. Our head coach has to hire those that “save” his job, cannot do it on his own. The hiring and firing practices at UGA have been suspect for many years, and if we look close enough, we know why.

If the hiring of Jeremy Pruitt does not work out, and I suspect that this is a temporary job for Pruitt, what will mark richt do next to save his position as head coach.

Head coach has done all he is capable of from the position he has in Athens. I feel we have hit a Mack Brown situation in Athens, and those that actually are in charge of the football program need to face up to the “real situation”.

I often read from different places where Georgia is a prestigious job, many top names would flock to Athens for the opportunity to coach in the Classic City. Put my name down as one who endorses that thought.

Buc, good reasonings that I agree with. For me, I haven't looked at it as in depth as you have; you are a much better analyzer of UGA football than I, sir:)

For me, I don't look at the behind the scenes stuff, because there are behind the scenes stuff at 90% of the schools.

I look at the final result of all that stuff.

1. 8 straight BCS titles games played with a member of the SEC present. NONE OF THOSE UGA, which plays in the 4th best state in the nation at producing D1 prospects.

2. In order for any team to consistently win the SEC you have had to out coach the Sabans and Meyers, etc. We don't have the coach to do that.

3. 1/3rd of the game ignored for 5 years. ST.

That's it for me.

I hate Meyer, but if I knew he would commit 5 years to Georgia, I would bring him in in a heartbeat. I think I've been pretty straight up as long as I've been on this board: I WANT A NATIONAL TITLE.

Nothing else matters to me.

10-3 may as well be 7-6 if I'm not playing for the crystal.

Strange sometimes what money does to a person. Most of us were grunts at one time, had to set goals for ourselves, or wallow in self pity.

DWS you make good points. I would settle for this at this time . . . . mark richt putting in 1/3 of the time that Manning and others do. Manning has made and will continue to make millions. He will never be satisfied with where he is at. Same can be said for some football coaches, one Nick Saban in particular. In my opinion, richt has reached his point of fulfillment, coaching(?) college football.

Shannon, good post, one portion really sticks out to me. You said . . . . 1. 8 straight BCS titles games played with a member of the SEC present. NONE OF THOSE UGA, which plays in the 4th best state in the nation at producing D1 prospects.

Here we are again with one of the top rated high school players in Georgia, not that far from Athens and we could not get a commitment. I also understand why. Players see things and they talk/discuss what they know is going on at a particular time. We lose to programs that have the one thing that richt has tried to hang his hat on and failed miserably. "Continuity".

Sorry, Vanderbilt did not give up, our coaches did. Nebraska did not give up, our coaches did. The only positive that I can draw from those two games . . . . grantham hauled butt.

My reason is very simple. The coaches here do not use the talent that they have here to thier full potential. They screw around with what the abilities are. 2 glaring cases in point taking AM's wheels away early in his career and screwing up Blair Walsh. Another case in point is the Joe Cox debacle. Going to be a replay of that real soon and cmr and bobo will stick to that come hell or high water and talent like Bauta will be wasted because they don't want to admit any wrongs. Ramsey has already been anointed the heir apparent and Mason is just keeping his seat warm for him. Sad.

We made one change now it is time for 2 more and we will contend once again with the other top tier teams in the SEC and the country.

Brother, great post. Exactly the points you have made for a long time ogredawg. They brush off things like Blair Walsh and the kicking game. Did exactly what you said sir, took AM's wheels away from the get go. Taught by two quarterback coaches that did not have "wheels". What were we to expect.

ogredawg, have had it up to here, wherever here is, with the same BS over and over. richt posing and smiling like a mule eating briars. Soon be time for richt to do his "dress rehearsal" for the signing of the 2014 Class recruits.

Say again, richt better hope that he never loses McClendon. Is that Auburn that I think is "sniffing around", or Tennessee? Worth watching.
