TN Dawg wrote: The who: My dad & our next-door neighbor Mr. B.P. O'neil (who gave us tickets when he got too old to go)

The what: Playing football in the backyard as a 10 yr old and pretending to be Andy Johnson while listening to Munson.

The why: Because I was born to be a Bulldog. I remember when I was accepted to UGA. Mr B.P. invited me over to his house for a chat. His family was known for donating property for a new library to be built at Mercer University in Macon. Needless to say, he was a well respected man and a little bit of an opposing figure for a 18 year old kid. He told he was proud of me and about his father taking him to his first UGA game in 1905. He told such vivid stories of glorious UGA games I had only briefly heard of before. He also gave me a book. "The Ghost of Herty Field", which I still proudly display on the bookshelf in my den.

Wow! Very cool.

My entire family (besides me, my wife, and kids) are FSU fans. That's why I am very familiar with Buc's references to Coach Richt in his FSU days. When I was in the Marines in the 80's, my wife and I were stationed near Savannah and visited there regularly and fell in love with everything Georgia. We have both been UGA fans ever since. We go to Athens and Savannah several times a year (live in NC now).
My family finally accepted it after many years--it was almost like "coming out" when they found out. Funny thing is, they pull for UGA when it doesn't affect FSU, but over the years I have gotten to where I can't stand FSU.

EDIT: DWS, still can't figure out if we can send private messages or not, but I got another bike. If you can get my e-mail address, and e-mail me, I'll send you pics.

The SMART era CONTINUES!!!!!!

When I was a small kid we used to watch all the older kids and men play football on a small dirt field in Nicholsville community(between Irwinton and Dublin)and all they would talk about was the Bulldogs,so I started loving the Bulldogs from that time on just because I wanted to be like the older kids. That love of the Georgia Bulldogs has stuck with me throughout the years and just gets stronger as years go by, I cant wait for kickoff this year just like every year.

Growl,
I know exactly where Nicholsville is. I have family in Dexter. When we were in SC would go through on 441. You are right. Big Bulldog country and not far from Wrightsville!

TN Dawg, back towards Dublin from Nicholsville is Chappells Mill that my uncle Forrest Townsend owned which turned out the best corn meal in the area for many years and also had a Coca Cola cooler that kept drinks cold by submerging the drinks in cold water. This was a grist mill that had a big grinding stone powered by the water running over the paddles from the lake to the spillway, and I spent many hours listening to the Bulldogs and doing the best Bass and Brim fishing on the face of the earth there with my Uncle Albert, my Dad J.B.,along with my grand parents Gordon and Molly. I sure would like to do that again, but Chappells Mill is no longer in the family and I sure miss it.
