Who was both my mom and my dad, who both worked for UGA and brought me up in Athens to be a Dawg. Other "who's" included Fran Tarkenton (as a Viking), Andy Johnson, Jake Scott, Bill Stanfill, and many others. What was Sanford stadium and the red and black jerseys and the G on the helmets and cool crisp fall days and Poss concessions and Larry Munson. The Why is because I was blessed by God to grow up as a Bulldog.

I remember Nebraska handing it to us back around Christmas of 1969. I've waited all these years for sweet REVENGE. And I think it's true what the mafia says . . . revenge is a dish best served COLD. Oh how I loved watching Chris Conley run the length of the field and then watching AO rip Martinez head off on the last play of the game . . . EAT it, Cornhuskers . . . take THAT and LIKE IT.

Sorry - little carried away there . . . but that's pretty much why I love the Dawgs.

I was blessed by God to live close to Athens, and I've always been a homer anyway......

That gave me ample opportunity to see UGA football games where I saw this oft undersized, overachieving defense that was coached
by a man named ERK RUSSELL.

'NUFF SAID

(In all fairness.... listening to Larry Munson had a lot to do with it as well... may they both rest in blissful dawgpeace)

God Bless and Go Dawgs

My mom took me to a game. I've been a Dawg since that day.
December 1, 1962 Athens, GA Georgia Tech won 37–6

For winning the Natty give every Dawg a bone AND prime rib steak.

The who: My dad & our next-door neighbor Mr. B.P. O'neil (who gave us tickets when he got too old to go)

The what: Playing football in the backyard as a 10 yr old and pretending to be Andy Johnson while listening to Munson.

The why: Because I was born to be a Bulldog. I remember when I was accepted to UGA. Mr B.P. invited me over to his house for a chat. His family was known for donating property for a new library to be built at Mercer University in Macon. Needless to say, he was a well respected man and a little bit of an opposing figure for a 18 year old kid. He told he was proud of me and about his father taking him to his first UGA game in 1905. He told such vivid stories of glorious UGA games I had only briefly heard of before. He also gave me a book. "The Ghost of Herty Field", which I still proudly display on the bookshelf in my den.
