Who Why and What made you a Georgia bulldog!!!

B) B) B) I haven't posted in a good while so I thought it was a good time to get my feet wet again. Why am I a Georgia Bulldog for life? Born & raised in Stamford, Conn. how did this "yam dankee" get to Athens. Ga. Graduated from high school in 1949 & wanted to be a veterinarian. Conn. did not have a vet school & my only choices Cornell or U of Penn. Really didn't care for either one & most other schools in the USA had regional hookups with other states, Conn. not included. Wrote to UGA & they said come down we just love folks from Conn. Interesting!!!!!! Now we had another Bulldog school in Conn. namely Yale. I had read that Yale & Georgia had played football on several occasions & the first President of UGA was a Yale grad named Abe Baldwin. In fact for many years in order to become president of UGA you had to be a Yale grad. Georgia became known as The Yale of the South. I came to Athens via the Silver Comet in the fall of 1950 & took up residence in Dudley Hall on Ag hill (south campus). I've been in Georgia for 63yrs, 56yrs practicing veterinary medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. I retired & sold my practice in Dec. 2012. I did spend a year in Boston, Mass. on internship at Angel Memorial Hospital 1960 to 1961 & came back to Georgia in the fall of 61. I'm a Georgian & a Dawg by choice & proud of it. That's my story. As always, GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P :P :P :P :P :P

Agreed! Always nice to hear what a new poster is feelin bout them Dawgs...betcha Buc feels the same way

Really enjoyed reading everybody's stories in this thread, as for me:

I'm with Sadlerdawg! I'm a homer, always have been, always will be.

Love them Braves & Falcons, always rooting for the Hawks too.

My old man left GA & went to Auburn back in 1957 but I grew up in Newnan, GA & with family roots in the Savannah area, all my kin folks were sporting Red & Black which was mixed in with some Navy & White after a man named Erk came to town & made GaSo. a National powerhouse.

Besides, I had just turned 2 yrs. old at the start of that glorious 1980 season. Now I can't say for certain that I 100% remember hearing that raspy voice come through the AM radio in the Fall of 80 but I darn well know some of my absolute earliest childhood memories are of Larry speaking & me smiling. Dooley's Dawgs led by the Goal line Stalker were the talk of the town, not just in Newnan, but in the whole entire state! I swear in probably half of the thousands of pics my Mom has of me from birth til present day I have on AT LEAST 1 article of UGA gear.

My older Sister & I used to attempt bodily harm during football season with me on my big bad UGA beanbag & loser beside me on her butt ugly Auburn trashbag. By the time my dad took me to my first game at Sanford to see Ray Goff's 1st win over Baylor on 9/16/89 I could already sic em & woof with the best of em. I guess you could say that UGA was my 1st true love.

As fate would have it, last Aug. I married a misguided Georgia Peach who became an Auburn grad (can't escape em!)
& I love her dearly. Still, she knows very well that the Dawgs have owned a big ol piece of my heart for a long, long time now. She also knows that the best 13 Saturdays of the yr. are right around the corner & even though she will be rooting for the losing team come Nov. I can already tell she really likes the view of 92,000 brothers & sisters in red from Sec. 326...right near where the banners of past Bulldog glory fly B)

I will soon raise our UGA-AU house divided flag up on the flagpole directly over my stone carved Uga statue that keeps the vermin away. I just picked up a new Georgia thermos yesterday because I can hear the coming sounds of Fall in the distant with pads a popping & opponents dropping. I am ready to join the entire Bulldog Nation on a march to glory & redemption. I want to carve up a piece of 3 Tigers this yr. but I think I want to fry some Gamechickens even more. I hope to bag my limit of Gators & I always enjoy swatting down those pesky Yellow Jackets. I am as ready as excited as ever about What's Comin Down the Tracks & I want to freight train an Elephant before the mean machine reaches the final station. Georgia football is about to return to Athens my friends, it's almost time to hunker down, I hope everyone here is ready to bring forth all of your Georgia pride?!

Southern by birth, Georgia Bulldog by grace

Well growing up in Memphis, Tennessee there were not many Georgia fans around. The Vols and Ole Miss were the choice of most.
And then there was my Jr. High football coach, Jim Bower. He loved the Bulldogs. He would tell us every Friday to go home and watch Georgia. I thought it was because he was a fan but later found out it was also because we ran the same offense as the Dawgs. (I was a defensive back had no clue)
I started watching Georgia and it didn't hurt that we had a Freshman named Herschel Walker. Then we won the National Championship. Well, I have been a fan ever since.
Was actually in Atlanta this week as my Son's birthday request was to see his friends that recently moved back to the area and go to Six Flags and the Georgia Aquarium. I enjoyed being around other Bulldog faithful!!
See you guys at a few games this year,
Mark G

Who - My parents. Moved from AZ to GA and I managed to stay here.

Why - UGA was a state school and close to home. Plus it was the only place I could afford to go.

What - Everything about it. Tradition, location, night life plus football is a year round endeavor here.

Go Dawgs!!!!

The Who: Family...Born and raised pure bulldawg!

The Why: There is no why, it's a birthright.

The What: Native Georgian, born in east ATL, moved to Decatur, played football at SWD under Dewey Alverson. Graduated UGA in 87. Like Sadler, I'm now in the Tar Heel state, but it's only a 3.5 hour drive to Gods Country.

Bulldawg born, Bulldawg bred and when I die, I'm Bulldawg dead!

GO DAWGS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
