"Pistol" Packing Dawgs!!

Talk a little about offense. Not going to call this a scoop, (I do think/know it is) will be interesting to see if anyone else picks this up from our site in the next few days. Been known to happen. At this point in time, none in the media or private blogs have said this, maybe even thought about it.

Mentioned a while back that AJ Turman in my way of thinking was a really good get. Wait until you see this young man in person, huge shoulders and thighs, loves contact. Yes, said before, he is fast. AJ is not going to out run a 4.3, 4.4 defensive back, but believe me when I say this, he will run over them in a heart beat. Big, strong, fast running back. Excellent making a cut with a full head of steam. That is when defensive players "forget" how to wrap up or tackle as it was called in the old days.

AJ played in a "Pistol" offense, two running backs. I think that Mike Bobo is going to use the "Pistol" some this year. I will not be surprised to see Faton Bauta, one of our two running backs along with AJ Turman on the field at the same time. Could very well be Faton Bauta with Gurshall in the "Pistol" also. We have options, and offensive linemen love to run block.

At this point in time in college football and some pro ball, the "Pistol" cannot be ignored. My bet is that Mike Bobo is not going to ignore the system. I truly believe that AJ Turman signed with the University of Georgia because he knows that Mike Bobo/Mark Richt are in favor of some changes. There is not a doubt in my mind that we now have the personnel in Athens to make the "Pistol" work.

Not saying drop the pro style offense that we are and have been using forever. This gives us two offensive units doing different things, and doing them well. No coach in the SEC wants to watch a team that is proficient at both.

Faton Bauta, AJ Turman, Gurshall, that is scary.

Find out soon enough. Surprised that Saban did not make more of an effort for AJ. Maybe he did, but we all know that if we are ever going to rise to the top, we have to change a thing or two. Some changes have been made, looking forward to the ones we have not seen.

This is a very good suject Buc and we may be seeing the groundwork being laid for some exciting football out of Athens. I've waited pretty patiently to see Faton Bauta on the field, and now AJ Turman, there are many that are just coming to Athens that should get ample playing time this year. The defense is going to have to play folks that really havent been here long and they are going to have to learn some things on the fly, we have the athletes now as you and others have stated"coach em up".

growl, I have always had a problem with 85 or so players on the team, and only see somewhere around 40 or so young pups seeing action. Hoping that this is the beginning of building that base and keeping it above the count mentioned above. Not sure, but I think that is what is going on in Athens. Long overdue.

Some time back there was discussion on this board about whether or not we should add some wrinkles. It was a lively discussion and those that participated were strong in their views. No one got ugly and it was worth the price of admission to read all of the posts.

It has been said many times over, if you are serious about Georgia Football, this board is loaded with folks that break par most of the time.

Maybe some that participated in the discussion before will find their way back to give it another go. This is an open board.

Really like this post made by bulldawg36869 . . . . Versatility is a good thing in many aspects of life................... oh yeah on the football field too.

If it's inclusion doesn't interrupt the regular offense, then it's a fantastic weapon.... especially if you can have a QB being able to effectively pass out of it.

Another aspect is that the experience might prove valuable as an insurance policy for 2014 if a HM led offense has any struggles.

However you slice it, we need to see what Bauta can do.

God Bless and Go Dawgs

Off subject . . . . Mark Richt gets a raise and contract extension. Answers the one question for me that needed to be answered. No way is Todd Grantham staying at UGA. Realize that was a foregone conclusion, this just seals the deal. 2013 season will probably be his last. Gives all concerned with running the program a running start for a replacement.

Just thinking out loud . . . . Could it be that bringing Chris Wilson aboard had more meaning than a replacement factor for RG? Wilson has had the title of defensive coordinator prior to UGA, and he is supposed to be a very good recruiter.
