I think the defense will be a pleasant suprise for us this year. new d line coach, new starters, new time. I'm hopeful. Really don't know that much about recruits, im a younger dawg here and college takes up so much of my time that I cant keep up with recruting, i try though. I honestly think our defense will produce a few stars this year, hope so anyways. With my hot head I don't want to be the one starting a fire CTG thread

BullDawg2010, think several on this board think that this group that is replacing the 2012 group will be just fine.

Grantham and his defensive coaches have not spent all of their time on just Seniors or those that declared for the draft.

Never been an issue with talent level in Athens, personally think it took the coaches, both offensive and defensive time to "catch up" to just how good the players could be.

Very important to the psyche of the players and fans to come out of the gate focused on winning. That for the most part falls on the coaches. First two games carry a lot of weight on both sides of the ball.

It has been mentioned here and other places that we are beginning to see what "might" have been shortcomings with our departed defensive line coach. Let bread sit around too long and it becomes stale. UGA has been guilty of that for many, many years.

Have high hopes for this defensive group. More speed and still have great size on the front. Our linebackers will be just fine. Grantham and company have to feel real good about the defense. Have watched Georgia football for a few years, great players leave, only to be replaced by great players.

BullDawg2010, after reading your post, started searching for some comments/predictions on the 2013 defensive front. Many have probably read the link below, I missed it, notice it was published on the 15h of January. All I can gather from looking around on Grantham's thoughts of Taylor, he seems to be really pleased with the young pup.

I am a huge supporter of Garrison Smith, he will lead this group in 2013. In the Nebraska game Garrison did not have that many tackles accredited to him, but being there, watching the game, Nebraska was double teaming Smith most of the game.

Buc, believe CTG is ahead of the curve. Of the commits to date, there are 6 JUCO's with 5 on the D side of the ball. They should all step right in to contribute immediately. Of the 29 commits, 17 are on the D side of the ball (4 DL, 8 DB, 5 LB).

Those numbers tell me CTG had "clear vision" when looking ahead....especially with the JUCO's......very smart imo.

This class makes me feel even better about the D this coming year.

Only 3 OL to date but if we could get Tunsil, it would jump the total to "6". (btw, perfect math :woohoo: :woohoo: )

wlayton, right now watching the South Carolina game, looking primarily at the defensive line. Big and . . . . slow. That has to change. Know that Grantham likes the big fellows, but some of the teams in the SEC will and did take advantage of our front 3. In this game at times, the defense looks totally confused, much like we did at times in the Orlando game.

Comes down to this for me where Grantham is concerned. Does he have the coaching ability to take a serious look at the teams with running talent and at least "break even" with them.

The one person that is going to leave a void in our defense is #9. South Carolina game, all over the field, in the trenches and sideline to sideline. If I was the person picking for any NFL team that needs linebacker help, he is my first choice. Notre Dame linebacker does not come close. Give Grantham high fives for this, the move from defensive back to linebacker will put an incredible amount of money in Ogletree's bank account.

Stand by my thoughts and statements . . . . 2013 defense can be better or show little drop off compared to the 2012 defense. Really believe that our young pups already on campus and those coming in from as you mention JC's can and will play to a higher level.

Interesting re-look at USC game Buc.

In the SEC, I think I like the 3-4 against "spread" offenses but believe I had rather see the 4-3 against the more "traditional" offenses....I-formation/Pro style.
