yankeedawg1, read the same quote that you referred to above. Makes sense and basically it comes down to one thing, the win.
I think one of the more interesting points that I often hear and read are the reasons behind the SEC being the "lofty" conference in college football.
I have my own thoughts and it basically comes down to the supporters of Georgia and SEC football. We are never quite satisfied with the total product, even though we stand ready to defend our team and the SEC as a whole.
Said this a few years back on this board, sticks with me still. I forget things quicker in my latter years, but not this little ditty that my Mother passed along to me as a youngster, and in truth never let me forget.
"Good, Better, Best, never let it rest, until the Good is Better and the Better is Best."
That in my opinion is why coaches like Bear Bryant and Nick Saban reached the goals that many can only dream of. One of the clips being shown on television now is Saban slapping McCarron on the butt during a game. Same as a parent would do back in the day to get ones attention and demand improvement.
On the subject of TG. I liked his reaction to the incident in Vanderbilt. That however does not have to be replayed over and over. Made most of us feel good that we had a stand up guy on the sidelines. Said more than once that I think TG had a huge effect on Mark Richt, I believe that. It was needed. We also need to keep in our memory bank that Grantham was the defensive coordinator in Cleveland. Of course not much has worked in Cleveland for a long time, as was the case with Grantham.
I am glad that Grantham left Dallas and took up residence in Athens. I for one think he had a lot to do with helping us climb out of a huge hole. At that point not only was Willie on the way out, but Mark Richt was truly on the "hot seat". As AM said later on after the dust had setteled . . . . "we were aware of what the fans were thinking and saying".
Guess what I am trying to say is this . . . . we saw Mark Richt change, attitude for the most part, remember 680 smart butts comments and Richt was ready to duke it out. I sincerely hope that we can see some of that in Todd Grantham, (attitude adjustment) hoping his ego is not too large to as you say yankeedawg1, catch on to the way the college game is played.
Don't have to say a word to my Florida friends, just
Sorry to be so long, just have stronger feelings that some I guess. Maybe I am a bit like Todd Grantham. . . .
Special time of the year for me. Look forward to the incoming recruits. Think that there are several surprises headed our way if those I speak with have a clue.
God bless our Wounded Warriors in many of the Veterans Hospitals . . . .
