Time get get back on track in the postseason

11 years 10 months ago #51300 by UGAChemDawg
Dawgs, we need this win. The last 2 bowl games have been utter embarassments for our program. It's high time the Dawgs got back in the win column in the postseason.

This is a great matchup of traditional powers. I am excited to be playing a storied program like Nebraska instead of some team from Conference USA or the Sun Belt. Should be a fun matchup and a good chance to gain a little recruiting momentum. Huskers have the series edge 1-0, having won the only time these two have met. Time to even things up.

Let's go Dawgs and rep the SEC right this time in the Capital One Bowl!

Time for a little evaluation.

1. Overall record this season: 12-2. Excellent. Perfect? Nope. Excellent though. Nothing shy of EXCELLENT. B)

2. Aaron Murray in big games. Lost to South Carolina and Alabama. Beat Florida and Nebraska. Did he win ALL of the big games? Nope. Did he FAIL in all the big games? Nope. Did he perform well in any of them? That's debatable (I say he performed very well), but honestly - I don't give a rat's rear end. Fight this meaningless fight all you want. B)

3. Georgia's record against ranked opponents: Probably worse than ever, after this season. We beat Florida. We lost to South Carolina and Alabama. That's about it, huh? Oh, someone will say Nebraska was ranked. Others will note that AFTER we beat them, they won't be ranked anymore. I just sigh when I hear this argument, because I don't give a rat's rear end. Nebraska was ranked when we beat them. Just like Auburn and GT in 2011, and we knocked them out of the rankings too. I prefer to think of it this way - because I LOVE the Dawgs - I'm a homer - we beat Vandy (they played in a bowl, which they won), we beat Ole Miss (they are playing in a bowl), we beat Florida (they are playing in a BCS bowl), we beat Nebraska (they played in a bowl), we beat GT (they played in a bowl, which they won). Anyone can call it a "cupcake schedule" if they want - and I will ROUNDLY ignore them, because I don't give a rat's rear end. B)

4. We beat Tennessee, Abuurn, Florida and GT two years in a row for the first time in I don't know how many years. That makes me smile. B)

I'm sure someone will try to paint this season as a failure. I don't give a RAT'S HIND QUARTERS. I disagree with that assessment. As far as I'm concerned this was a FUN season for me - it was enjoyable and entertaining. It had it's disappointments, but it ended on a high note.

Excellent season INDEED! B)

Agreed a pretty darn good season. 12 wins, a chance at a title, 2 and 2 against ranked teams. This bowl game win will give us momentum going into next season. Only thing I'm disappointed in is the way our defense has struggled against the run. Needs to be corrected next season. I can understand bama running the ball at will, but not Nebraska. But overall I'm impressed with this group of dawgs. One more year Murray come back and try again for a title!!

Happy with the 12-2 season. But if anyone on this board thinks that we can compete with the top tier teams in College Football should re evaluate thier thinking. We won a second tier bowl game against as second tier B1G team.............barely.

Next year will be even tougher. Our D has a loooong way to go.

Had to sleep on what I saw in Orlando.

Todd Grantham, the same coach that I thought had it going on, changed my mind.

Pathetic is the word that comes to my mind after watching our defense play the same way they did when Willie was the "supposed" leader. Total confusion and it was not only the beginning of the second half, happened throughout the game. Grantham acting like a madman on the sidelines, not getting through to the players on the field. Watched Mark Richt on the 40 yard line collar Grantham and jerk him around. There comes a time when reality sets in, think that has happened with the teachings of Grantham.

Don't get me wrong, the players wanted to stop what was going on, but they did not have a clue, not only the second half, the entire game. Goes back to ego in my way of thinking. Grantham changed the defensive side of the ball and in my opinion he has had enough time and ATHLETES to make his 3/4 work. If we played Alabama tomorrow, they would double the figures in the running game that they put on us in Atlanta.

Grantham said he had to have a big nose guard. Well, he not only got a big nose guard, he had two. In my opinion what has happened on the defensive side I mentioned in the previous paragraph, he refuses to believe that his way is not the right way. All I have to do is look at the numbers over our winning season, and say this . . . . Grantham should thank his lucky stars that Mike Bobo bailed his butt out several times. Sad day when a coach has stats pile up on him and refuses to make changes for the betterment of the entire team. Sorry folks, I see a huge problem with Grantham and his unwillingness to move away from his teachings that don't work. If we are looking to play at a higher level the truth is the path we are on now won't get us there.

When I look at the talent that Grantham had on his side of the ball, look at game to game accomplishments, or lack of, it ain't the players. Watching the game could not believe the confusion and the antics of our defensive coordinator. Two time outs as TampaDawg points out in another thread beginning the second half. Why? Because Grantham was lost.

This game was won because of the talent that exists in Athens. High fives to the players. If the young men were not so talented and able to overcome the lack of coaching, our team would not be 12-2 this season. That is a fact.

I do not apologize for what I have said, could say a lot more and might. Any team with good not excellent running backs and a decent offensive line will dominate Grantham's 3/4. Think maybe he is a defensive line coach, not a defensive coordinator. Seems when Grantham has had more than a couple of years in a job, he moves on. Maybe I am wrong, do know that I saw total confusion for four (4) quarters under TG's lack of leadership, or maybe his coaching methods. Not for me to decide, will support the Red and Black as long as I can draw another breath.

Good on the players that stood up and made plays. Sure hate to see Tree leaving, in my opinion, the best linebacker on the team. Good luck in the pros, you will do well.
