Thinking back a ways to Chris Mayes of Spalding County/Griffin, Georgia and the number of universities that really wanted him after watching him closely his senior year in high school. Did his time in Mississippi and now headed to the Athens Campus.
Picked up on a remark that Mayes said in one of his youtube tapes. He was asked what his plans are now that he is heading to Georgia to play football. His answer . . . . want to play two or three years and then go to the NFL.
Thought about that statement, then got excited about his answer. If he plans to go to the NFL, that will require one thing while in Athens . . . . has to play serious SEC football and be recognized for his efforts. Size 6'4" and 330 pounds at this point, and intends to play nose tackle. Still hope that Kwame returns, but if not, we at least have some of the size that Grantham wants at that position. Mayes also has serious time at defensive end.
Watching some tape on Mayes, not the kind of player that you want to take a lick from straight on. This young fellow is a man in the truest sense of the word. JTII spends time with Chris and we are looking at someone that will play in the NFL.
Try not to say too much about Adams, but can only imagine if he comes to Athens along with Mayes and a couple of others. No I am not forgetting about Garrison Smith, anyone that reads this board knows how I feel about him. This defense could be real nasty, especially two or three games into the 2013 Season. Not really worrying about the defensive backfield, that group might be the biggest surprise of 2013.
