SPIKE THE FOOTBALL

Not saying spiking the ball and thinking about it a moment... reminding your players that the ball can't be caught unless in the end zone, would have got us a win... Not saying not doing it is what cost us the game...

I just want to know why they didn't do it when I'm sure 99% of everyone who has ever played football probably would have done it. Not doing it didn't fake Alabama out, so it's not like we caught them flat-footed expecting the spike.

No excuse... no blame for the loss being assigned. Just curious why... (also though... must note we also couldn't stop the clock with a TO... kinda handy from time to time to have one of those at the end of a game, eh).

Team gave it their all. The players didn't play scared... they showed up prepared and confident. Had the chance.

It's a real damn shame it ended with us unable to get another play off while we were at their 5... a real shame. 5 flippin yards away and we couldn't stop the clock.

Wart, I watched Talking Football out of Atlanta last night and Barnhart talked to CMR about the whole spiking the ball scenario.

CMR told him that they didn't want to spike it because they practice that scenario ALL THE TIME. They knew what play they wanted to run and hoped they could catch them a little in dissaray etc etc. Barnhart said the main point though was that it wasn't an adlib or panic by UGA but in fact they practice that hurry up situation with the specific play call in practice all the time. BAMA just made a play, game over.

I know, and I know it didn't cost us anything. I'm not going to rake CMR or
anyone else over the coals about it.

Just immediately after the game I found myself trying to find a "why" for the
thing not breaking our way.

Tipped ball... caught in bounds and the clock runs out. Never in a thousand years
would you imagine something so unusual happening.... and I'm crushed by the
lost opportunity.

Wartdawg, think we have to get up off of the canvas, just like AM did after the "hit" and move forward, which I know you will. Hurts big time. This is a game that our players will remember going into the 2013 Season. Some call it seasoning. :)

I'm with you Wartdawg.....you couldn't draw that scenario up in a million years.

I would have spiked it as well....in your post above you were wondering "why" and thought you wanted some feedback.....remembered what Barnhart reported straight from CMR.

I think sitting a game changer like Marshall is poor coaching. Taking away your one-two punch in your running attack is poor coaching.
