Couple of Thoughts

I agree with you, Buc, about the TEs. Good TEs, with catching ability AND blocking skills, neutralize LBs. Makes 'em think twice about covering the run on play action.

All great posts and YD1 is saying 1 game at a time like I have said in the past.

Bottom line we have talent and it is now up to the coaches to use that talent correctly.

no kool aid, no islands, just good old fashioned UGA Football and win baby win.

thriller hard not to be excited about Arthur Lynch and Jay Rome. Taking Jay Rome at his word, in shape after basketball and ready to put the pads on. Arthur Lynch can catch the football and he is 6'6" and 270 or so pounds, like having two left or right tackles when he is on the field. This is the chance that Lynch has been waiting and practicing for. Do not believe there are any limitations to JR's talent. He said he needs to improve his blocking, he will get that chance in the fall. Our nasty defense will help him get better . . . quick.

Truth of the matter, as others have stated before, talent abounds on this team. Questions everyone asks, "How can we continue to have top 10 ranked recruiting classes and continue to underachieve"?

You fill in the blank.

For me it is determining what expectations are. Don't see how we can fairly asses UGA program without taking a deep look at what is happening in Athens. I do think we are heading in the right direction. First time in a long time.

I have done some sole searching after season and am still scratching my head over CMR. After the MSU loss, I sat down and really looked at CMR. Both sides - football coach and person. As I do with most decisions i went to the pros/cons analysis.

Pros:
1. No doubt in my mind he is one of the finest men in college football. Moms want their kids to play for him. They want someone to be looking out for their babies.
2. Runs a clean ship. Except for the bonehead moves of some, he keeps the NCAA investigators out of Athens. In a time when win at any cost is the mantra, lot to be said about that.
3. Cool under fire. Like the fact that he doesn't get too rattled. I recall in the 2001 UGA / UT game when UT scored on a 80 yard screen with about 2 min left to take lead. Sidelines were going ballistic. Camera focused on CMR and he looked in control. He and David Greene marched Dawgs down the field for win.
4. Top recruiter. Always brings in top talent.

Cons:
1. Too cool sometimes. There are times when I want to see CMR with more fire in the belly. Sometimes others motivation comes out of their leader being totally out of control. Who is going to charge with me and take that hill mentality.
2. Lacks killer instinct. Have often thought "foot was taken off the gas". Not an Meyer fan, but remember the two time outs with little time remaining? Remember last year in Jax when RS IV runs it down to 1 yd line with 1+ min remaining? What if tables had been turned?
3. Nice guy. See #1 in Pros. This could possibly be 2B. Gentlemanly was prevent the killer instinct.

When I first joined this board, I posted a letter a friend of mine sent me in staunch support of CMR. Buc kind of blasted me (for good reason) for posting without backing up my position. My Pros list seems to be longer and I still support my coach, but a more mature TN Dawg is needing a little more out of our relationship. There it is. I said it.

TN Dawg, your above post is a good reason for you to be one of the leaders on this board. There are several here that really know football, the game, not necessarily the politics behind the game, and that same group could care less about the political end. All of us are after the same thing. Many say this is the best board, I buy that. Maybe not as much traffic as some boards, but the content is far above the others.

I remember well, still have the orginal post that you and I had some conversation for what was for all intents and purposes, the first conversation. I get too loud sometimes and know it, try hard (sometimes) to avoid posts on this board, just hard not to speak ones mind, as you so aptly did in your last post.

It is going to be hard for me to believe that we are not going to sign some really good players before next February. I also believe that the base has been laid (finally) to make a move forward in the coming years to put UGA on the same plain as those that are now comfortably above us. Maybe not comfortably, but they are above us.

You opened up, I will do so again. Don't let Coach Todd Grantham and his group get away. Here is hoping we can keep CTG in Athens for many years to come.

TN Dawg, you did not miss a stroke with your post, spot on. Good on you. There are many here that have some of the same thoughts. :)

Couple more thoughts. . . .

Today Uriah LeMay cast his lot with UGA, knowing that his Brother is on campus, waiting for his turn to lead the Red and Black. This speaks volumes to me. Brother has not asked for a transfer, he is biding his time behind AM. Brother also knows that a top rated quarterback has signed on with UGA and it appears that the quarterbacking job is open to competition. There are others there that want a chance to lead our team. Lots of depth it appears for several years for the QB position. We will see some changes or transfers before this is over.

The above paragraph does not apply to UGA Football a short time back. Something has changed in Athens and it appears to be the thing that was missing for far too long. Competition at every position. The light was turned on in Athens, can't say for sure who hit the switch, do have a feeling that we are seeing the results of McGarity coming to Athens.

No coincidence that recent firings and nudges have opened a lot of eyes. McGarity served 10 years more or less with Jeremy Foley in Gainesville. What I see McGarity doing in Athens is what I saw Foley doing and still doing in Gainesville, Florida.

Remember that SS wanted to return to Florida after the debacle in the NFL. Jeremy Foley basically said, get lost, chose Urban Meyer. One of the reasons that SS is still coaching in the SEC . . . wants a piece of Jeremy Foley's butt every chance he gets.

Ever wonder why SS took the South Carolina job? Some of the folks that I break bread with say Spurrier had never been spurned like that before. He would not be at South Carolina now if they were not in the East Division. SS was not after Urban Meyer or will he be after Muschamp, he has this thing against Jeremy Foley. Take that to the bank.

Anyone on this board that thinks that SS is focused on UGA, he feels that he can take care of that. Has done so in the past. Finally we have someone with spirit in Athens that wears that spirit on their sleeves. That is what has been missing.

Answering TN Dawg, we have one of the best recruiters in the game of college football, Mark Richt. If Mark Richt can transfer that same talent from the living room to the football turf, we will get what all of us have wanted since since Herschel Walker and Erk left. Fact my Brothers.

Know that I started in one direction and moved on to other places. TN Dawg and thriller got my juices flowing again. Hope both of you come up often, good for UGA Football. :)
