Question for the folks on this board, have thought about it a lot lately.
Have read many articles about UGA having slow starts, then turning up the heat. Regardless of schedule.
If you have equal talent or superior talent to the team or teams that we are facing, what is the reason for the slow starts. Probably some will say players but I would wager that most would say it has something to do with coaches. No this is not a shot at Mark Richt, if that was the case Todd Grantham would have to wear the same helmet over the last couple of years.
There has been a significant change in coaching personnel in the recent past, some improvement at certain positions on the football team. Going into this year, with the group that will be on the field representing UGA, it will be hard for me to accept a slow start.
Mark Richt has a very good record when playing on the road, so that leads me to this . . . . Missouri is not the toughest team that we will face this year, if I am guessing correctly. Don’t expect this game to be a walk over, but I would be real disappointed if we left Columbia and we were not in the win column.
I asked the question, so I have to answer the question.
If we can’t win the first game . . . . What? Would be very hard for me to think that can and will happen.
Accepting the fact that Missouri will have their first SEC game at home should have some effect on the points total. Also, the folks that will be wearing the striped shirts will be SEC Officials, calls in a game like this should not favor either. Some might find that hard to believe, however most calls by our officials are not of the caliber of the AJ Green call in the end zone versus LSU.
Going to split hairs. Easy out for me. This game will be decided by Coaches/Players equally. As it should be.
No excuses from a football team with as much talent as UGA has. If we can’t win against Missouri, there is a problem somewhere. That is discounting funny bounces and bad calls. Again, too much returning talent on this football team to accept anything but a win.
Go Dawgs, Coach’em Up . . .
Edit: This is a quote that I totally agree with . . .
“I think too many teams are giving up too many rival games. College football is special because of rival games. I think our league in particular is special because of rival games and the passion of our fans. As we progress, I think we need to be mindful of that and respect that.” -- Mark Richt, AB-H, 5/31/12
