Brothers, looking at several different rating services and the players available for 2013. From what I am reading and film I am watching, 2013 is loaded with football talent. Maybe as much as I have seen in several years. Speaking for myself.
There is going to be a point in time when many of these young folks are going to be real disappointed. More and more schools are expanding services, improving facilities and I believe that is going to change some of this waiting until the last day or so to sign on. Reason I say that is because the talent base gets closer and closer when looking at ability. Some of these young players are going to realize that when offered, look close, that scholarship could go to someone else in a matter of minutes, hours or days later, not months. That is going to happen.
There are going to be young men getting left out, or attending schools that they did not originally want to attend. That is because the competition between backs and linemen and all football players are separated by very little when comparing skills. What is the difference between a 4.3 forty and a 4.5 . . . . point two. What about heart, strength and due diligence?
College football will benefit from this. Much time is spent by coaches on the road talking with prospects, time that could be used back in the "lab" improving football play with folks that are already under the tent.
Academics should improve greatly for these young men also. Many say that they want to do this or that, then it finally comes down to winning football games, rather than making the grades for the inevitable. Not everyone, not even close to everyone is going to the NFL. I could point to several players that thought they had this game of college and NFL football figured out. I would also have to ask permission to enter into the gates that lock behind us to talk with some of these same folks now.
One example that these young folks should be looking at is Trinton Sturdivant. If TS had not gotten injured multiple times in his pursuit of the NFL, he would right now be a millionaire many times over. He played a position that the NFL covets, and pays handsomely.
Trinton was one of the most impressive freshmen football players that I have ever seen on the UGA campus. Reading some of the things that have been written about TS in the last couple of days, one would think that he somehow got cheated. He did not, and he does not act in that vein. He now has to do what so many of us do and have done for many years. Trinton has to join the work force where the big bucks are sometimes hard to come by. I wish him well, he is what I would classify as a "True Dawg". Never a lack of willingness from Trinton. God bless you young man.
When I started this post, Trinton Sturdivant was the primary reason. He gave everything. I would love to see UGA step up and reward this young man somehow, especially since the University of Georgia provided this wonderful young man with an education. Would speak volumes to this Dawg Booster and Supporter.
Go Dawgs . . . Remember those that gave it all. TS did. . . . young players look closely at Trinton Sturdivant, there is a message there. . . .
