O-line question was created by Mike Honcho
Was thinking about something O-line related...thought I'd get the opinion of the educated masses. I think we can all agree there's a marked improvement in the defense from last year. I also think that most agree that it's not due to an infulx of new talent as much as it is a full understanding of the 3-4 scheme by the talent we had (plus an addition or two, i.e., Jarvis, Jenkins)
Question is this, it's obvious (to me at least) that a good deal of our offensive woe's come from OL play (or lack thereof.) We've got a new OL coach who has implemented a new blocking scheme which will take time to learn...can we expect to see the same improvement late this year/early next year in the OL that we've seen in the defense or are we just flat out not talented along the line?

Not finishing your blocks, and not being able to move people you outweigh by 40-50lbs goes
beyond a "blocking scheme" in my opinion.
We may get better, but I think it's going to be because we get stronger and develop a
nastier disposition. That's what needs to happen, and then it will appear we are learning
the system better.
I'm not saying learning the scheme isn't a part of it, but I've seen plenty of evidence
we flat out lack strength and intensity as well. I saw too many times where it looked
like our guys were doing exactly what they were supposed to be doing... they just weren't
doing it well.
Somebody needs to start bringing the nasty.

The SMART era CONTINUES!!!!!!

I've seen many plays where every one of our lineman is facing our backfield while the QB or RB is being hit because every one of them got beat. I think they just don't really know what they are doing. With their size, I think (like wart pointed out) if they can get some nasty attitude and get taught what needs to be done, they can improve quite a bit.

Wart and Sadler, I agree 100%. Have to have some nasty. I hope this team is actually believing what the coaches are saying. They have not arrived. They are improving, but it isn't going to get any easier.

I just dont think they believe in themselves yet. They are strong enough and big enough I just dont think the attitude is there. If you have the right attitude, even if you get beat, you dont turn your back on the man youre blocking until the play is over. I also believe that before its all over this year that they will make a lot of improvement and we'll be a more well rounded team. Its got to start somewhere, might as well be me. GOOOOOOOO DAWGS! Truth!!
Think that Friend is going to make the grade. Was dealt a hand that does not show coaching potential or ability.
Left tackle that will be a guard in the NFL. Bean will probably go back to Ocilla. Had high hopes for that young man, just never seemed to have the drive or the right coaches. (Both sides of the line). At best this year's line is experimental and that won't fly in the SEC, especially if one's sites are site on championships.
