wlayton, quick question about Richt though...say we do end the season w/ one of the records you mention. I have the feeling that won't squelch the screams from the fanbase. So at that point, McGarity finds himself in an intersting situation. The quick answer is to let Richt go and start over. This is where things get interesting...if you DON'T fire him, you have a coach that the fanbase isn't overly happy with who happens to be sitting on 2 years remaining on his contract. As we all know, not giving him an extension could be a killer for recruitment, yet giving him an extension could cause a riot with your fanbase...where do you go from there? Keep him under the same contract and hope the team plays well enough to earn him an extension for 2013 and beyond, or give him the extension now and hope you don't lose fan/booster support?

MH........it is ONLY my gut feeling that if he finishes with either of those two records, McGarity will give him the rest of his contract PROVIDED he hires a high profile OC. McGarity is witnessing the D getting much better from the recent overhaul and I believe he will allow CMR to do the same on the offensive side of the ball as well. Two more years finishes his contract anyway and with the great recruiting as of late, I feel that's the road McGarity is going to take. PLUS........now Dooley seems to be in CMR's corner.

On the contrary.....if CMR goes 4-8.....5-7 etc, McGarity would have NO choice but to let him go.

Just my gut sense and reasoning.

Either way Vince, Erk should have had the head coaching job at Georgia. You owe a major part of your success to Erk.

averagedawg, no doubt where I stand on the VD/ER issue. Will say this. . . . if the internet had been around back in the day, VD would not have a statue on campus.

Know a lot of the folks on this board grew up with VD. He had his early moments, then a young fellow from South Georgia presented him with a National Championship.

As an athletic director, VD stunk. Check his hires for football and basketball, should not be a lot of high praise for someone that got the most out of UGA, especially with three yards and a cloud of dust. Don't like Bobo's play calling, go back and check the talent UGA had and what one VD did with it. Makes Bobo look like Bill Walsh. That is past history, it however is history that cannot be erased.

Let me throw this tid-bit out to the folks on this board. Tennessee Dooley (Derek) beats UGA, Florida (Will) Muschamp beats UGA this season . . . . where does that leave us.

One last thought. Erk was here before Larry Munson, both of these men have meant more to UGA football and fan support than VD ever did. God Bless both of these TRUE BULLDOGS. How lucky we are as UGA supporters to have had Erk and Larry. Would love to see a statue of those two standing together with Ed Thilenius on campus.

Go Dawgs, no mistakes or losses from here on out.

I'm of the same feeling/gut instinct as you. As long as we have a winning record this year, I think McGarity gives him time (at least one more year) to turn things around. I just hope that if they give him another year without a contract extension, it doesn't look like we have a "lame duck" coach to recruits.
