With our OL problems, I think the proper approach is to have our full backs on the
field a lot. We need them for both run blocking and pass blocking. We pretty much
need to always run max protection in passing situations. I still like us a lot
better playing under center out of the I. It's not like the shotgun is helping
our protection, but maybe with just a little bit of running the I formation would
help us use what used to be our staple - the play action. We can't block long enough
even out of the gun, so make the DL and LB's hesitate just a second and have the
FB stay in. If the rush is there, have the FB release and dump the ball right over
the charging defense to try and help keep them honest. We could also consider
swinging the ball out wide to our tailbacks on flair passes. Get IC the ball on the
outside and that would help negate our OL problems. What about the screen pass?
Did we run one single pass to a FB, a screen of any sort, or a swing pass to our tailback?
Did we do it even once? Even if it was just an attempt to keep the Boise DL a bit
honest?
God Bless and Go Dawgs
