1st game breakdown

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to talk about what I saw in the first game. I'm a Rich apologist so go ahead and throw tomatoes and boo and hiss. At this point I think I deserve it. I am not a happy camper either. Instead of lambasting the coaching staff I just want to talk about the X's and O's and what I feel needs to change in a hurry.

1) No huddle offense needs to go. WTF? Unless we start running a spread option which I didn't see why the hell did we do this? Richard Samuels running a draw from the Shotgun  has got to be one of the most bone-headed ideas I have ever seen.

2) We have a bruiser at full-back use him. I didn't see Figgins much during the debacle at the Dome. Get him in the game. I remember one play where he flattened a linebacker and gave IC some room and he broke it for a nice gain. USE this kid.

3) If we can't run it up the middle run some off-tackle stuff. Have we forgotten about the power sweep. With IC's speed use it!!!!!

4) In lieu of a running game find the short pass. Christ we are so deep at TE why is this like rocket science? Do we not practice timing passes? Where is our slant route? 5 yd in/out. Where are these? Swing pass....hello anyone?

5) Where is the 3 TE sets we heard about during camp? If we can't block put more guys in the trench to help out. Geez.

The O line needs to get better in a hurry. Also I think it would behoove CMR to start taking over the play calling duties. This past weekend was the most uncreative offensive game plans I have ever seen. It was downright......offensive. I don't think the pro-form offense we run is the problem but the play calling. I know its been said but Bobo needs to get his head out of his ass and get to work.

The D I feel wasn't as bad as everyone wants to believe. These guys were gassed yes but the Dawgs were like 2 of 12 on 3rd down conversions and didn't sustain drives. We totally shot ourselves in the foot plus when were running the no huddle quick tempo crap and going 3 and out leaving those guys on the field much to long. To make matters worse Boise St. went to the no huddle and buried our guys. I don't think there is a D in the land that has the conditioning to handle that.

I will however say this about the D:

1) Pass coverage from the LB corps needs to get better. Too often was a guy in the middle of the field way open. Moore saw it and picked us apart with it. Props to that kid. He does have talent.

2) I am happy to say that the run D is much improved. I think we held them to ~120 yds for the day.

3) We need pressure, pressure, pressure. Dump the zone start playing more man to man pin our ears back and hope for the best. At the very least make the quarterback pay for dropping back.

4) Get Jenkins and Geathers in the game at the same time. There is no rule that we can't play them both.

I'm actually surprised that I have more to say about the O than the D. That's all for now. Let me know what you guys think besides the fact the coaches suck.

Go Dawgs!!!!

You are right. I guess being the optimist I deep down hope that the coaching staff sees this and thinks "hey those are good ideas we should start doing what getdown11 says." LOL!!! ;)

Funny!

I have no illusions that I am the end all, be all, bastion of coaching knowledge.

I however am not being paid millions of dollars to coach. While not a college
level coach.. I can still say with authority that whatever they are doing isn't
working. My 7 year old son can see that.

God Bless and Go Dawgs

I think you have always been a CMR supporter if I am not mistaken. I seems all of last year you kept defending him. What do you see that 15 or 20 of us on this site do not. How can you not put blame on CMR, this is the 4th year that he has had time to turn this program around. From what I see, we are no better off, no stronger, in no better shape than before. We still have the same 3 or 4 plays on offence, and our defense can not stop the short passes over the middle. I mean how a a receiver be wide open on every single play. You very seldom see our receivers wide open, don't you think we could take a few pointers from the other teams defense.

Why do you believe in CMR so much, is it because you are a religious man and like CMR for his morals. If that is your case, you want see UGA win many mre games I promise you that. Whether you want to believe it or not, CMR has lost interest in coaching, but he will not quit. CMR will stay here and do just has he has until someone gets the guts to fire him.

This is just my opinion and I am not tring to say you are wrong, but just tell us what makes CMR such a great asset to you.

CMR is pragmatic. Pretty hard to just walk away from that salary even if his heart
isn't in the job any longer.

That's what kills me though... he does appear to have lost interest. You can see it
in every sideline shot. He's just standing there looking like he's meekly accepted
the fact his team can't compete. Zero emotion.

The fanbase would respect him a lot more if he just acted like the teams performance
was unacceptable.
