The only thing I can figure is this: Bobo moved back up to the box after calling plays from the sidelines the last few years. I imagine they were setting up the Boise D so Bobo could get a look from above and then have the clipboard carriers call in the checked play. That tells me two things:
A) since we did it RIGHT OFF THE BAT, we really didn't have a solid offensive strategy in mind other than "see what Boise does...react."
and

CMR, Bobo, et al don't trust our QB to remember/understand is checkdowns. The ironic part of that, if it's the case, is that Murray probably would've called the game better!
I think it was dapolla that said something about going with, and pretty much staying in, max protect mode. Maybe I'm just over-simplifying things, but I can't, for the life of me, figure out why we came out in a shotgun spread formation??? If I'm a coach looking at a defensive front seven who is maybe a bit quicker than we're used to seeing but also MUCH smaller, I'm thinking let's go two tight end set with QB under center and over 500 pounds of beef between Figgins (or Ogletree) and Samuel and not give them any choice but to let us establish the run. Once we've established a bit of a run game and, more than likely, tired out their defense a little, then we SLOWLY start to open up the play book but NEVER abandon what allowed up to open up the play book in the first place. THE RUN!!! I'm so sick of seeing this:
1st down - incomplete pass
2nd down - two yard draw up the middle
3rd down - incomplete pass
There's a formula in place in the SEC that has won 5 NC's in a row that most of the coaches understand, but for some reason ours don't...make an aggressive, nasty defense the cornerstone of your team (I do think we have the potential to do this...even this year) find a fundamentally solid QB who won't lose the game for you (we have someone even better than this in Murray...I think he has the ability to win a game or two on his own) and then ESTABLISH THE RUN. Even when Urban came to Gainesville and brought the spread with him he was smart enough to realize he HAD to have a running game first...even if it was his QB that was doing most of the running! Same thing with Auburn last year! And South Carolina! I know we have some problems on the O-line, but we have plenty of size/strength, especially when you bring a second fullback or tight end into the mix, to establish SOME kind of a running game.
Anyway, I think I just sprained my ankle stepping down off my soapbox...I'm gonna go ice this and I'll catch ya'll tomorrow.
