duck, have taken the time to read every post on the much hyped game in Atlanta.
What we have now is the second coming of Bobby Bowden. When BB first started at FSU he was a ball of fire. Not different than the Boise State coach. He was willing to go anywhere, play anyone regardless of how good they supposedly were. At that time BB was a true head football coach, in every meaning of the word.
After a lot of success, deserved, BB slipped into a funk. He began to let the game pass him by. So what does he do, gives up coaching and lets others run the team. Head coach in name only. The person that eventually replaced BB was forced on him by the administration and it caused those that had been around BB for years to scream to the roof tops.
Everyone, as best I can remember on the Bowden staff was either replaced or left with their lips extended past their belly buttons.
Well, the surgery was complete and what is the outcome. The stitches healed and FSU is back in the saddle again. Check last year against Florida, you know, that team that we play in JAX each year. Kicked Florida's butt, and they aren't through with them yet.
That lengthy part of the post takes me to this, if some are not sure what is coming.
The same surgery that was used in the successful FSU operation needs to be applied to the UGA program. I have said it more than once on this board, Richt is the spitting image of Bowden. Mannerisms, hat he wears, aw gee shucks at press conferences. Best I remember a lot of the players that attended FSU were led there by their parents because BB was a good man. Richt as duck said is a good man, he however is not a head football coach.
Richt not only let his best coach leave soon after taking the UGA job, feel that VanGorder saw in Richt what many of us did not see until around 4 or 5 years ago. Both went their separate ways, and look at them now. Which one carries the highest stock price? Spurrier had actually lured VG to be his defensive head, so Spurrier recognized the talent. What's new.
Our leader brings in a buddy from his days in Miami and we know what happened with that choice. If however we look closely at what happened to Matinez after leaving UGA in shambles, he lit in Oklahoma where he is now the defensive backfield coach for the number one rated team in the country. Apparently their head coach saw something he liked, but here is the difference, the head coach put WM where he supposedly does his best work. Whether we agree or disagree on WM and his coaching tactics, maybe the leader of our forces does not know and understand how to place people. Actually Richt does not, it is very apparent from the game with Boise State.
Urban Meyer had his run, he was smart enough to haul ass before he took another licking from FSU and others. Not sure I would put UGA on the list of those that would win. We appeared to get closer last year, but time has proven to me that all is not gold that glitters.
I have been a supporter, maybe the single largest supporter of Grantham on this board. Last night blew me away. I had thoughts of previous seasons under WM and the awful way we played. The middle of the field, ten to fifteen yards from the line of scrimmage belonged to Boise State. I could not believe we were allowing pass patterns that are drawn up for cover two plays eat us alive. Sad commentary for a supposed defensive specialist brought in from the Dallas Cowboys. By the way, where was the get after the quarterbacks butt all night. Started out to be that way, and shazam, that part of the game disappeared before our eyes. Thought we had the pieces necessary to make Grantham's defense the scariest thing in the SEC. Had me believing it, looking forward to the new system. Thinking 10-2 season. Hello.
Comes back to Richt. Take the Urban Meyer route, just leave. The game you have been playing with the UGA supporters caught up with you. Go be a good man somewhere else. Think your head coaching days are over, your system failed, why would it work elsewhere. Maybe being a head football coach is not your calling. All of us have to be or should be honest to ourselves. Took Bobby Bowden many years to do that, hope that is not the case with Richt. Empty seats in Athens, what an awful thought.
Sorry to be myself and so long. Had to say this, because I too am a good, honest man and I want everyone to succeed. I however recognize incompetence. I see it in Athens now and have seen it there for far too long.
