More Problems

OSU in the not too distant past was all over Michigan and their coach for practicing too much. Think that this goes a lot further. Live in a glass house, best not to throw rocks.

If Tressel and Ohio State get out of this, NCAA will be on the "Hot Seat" big time. At this point, no telling the depth of the rules violations at OSU. Athletic Director and President knew nothing of this . . . . again, have some land in Florida I want to sell. These guys are making Kiffin look like a beginner at breaking NCAA regulations. Same bunch that were telling anyone that would listen how corrupt the SEC is.

Ohio State reportedly investigating players' car deals

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State's director of compliance is investigating at least 50 car sales to Buckeyes athletes and relatives to see if they met NCAA rules, the Columbus Dispatch reported Saturday.

The newspaper reported that a salesman who received game passes from Ohio State athletes handled many of the deals at two different dealerships. Ohio State has since taken the salesman, Aaron Kniffin, off the pass list.

Athletes are prevented from receiving special deals not available to other students. They are not permitted to trade autographs for discounts. Both dealerships display signed Ohio State memorabilia in their showrooms.

One car, a 2-year-old Chrysler 300 with fewer than 20,000 miles, was titled to then-sophomore defensive player Thaddeus Gibson in 2009. Documents show the purchase price as $0. Gibson said he did not know why the title showed a zero for the purchase price and said he was still paying for the car.

State law requires dealers to report accurate information about all car sales for tax purposes.

Quarterback Terrelle Pryor's mother and brother also purchased cars from the dealerships. Kniffin loaned his own car to Pryor for a three-day test drive to Pryor's home in Jeannette, Pa.

Kniffin and the owner of one of the dealerships he worked for, Jason Goss, have attended seven football games as guests of players, including the 2007 national championship game and the 2009 Fiesta Bowl.

Ohio State already has five players -- including Pryor -- serving five-game suspensions for accepting improper benefits from a tattoo parlor. The NCAA is investigating coach Jim Tressel, also suspended for five games, for knowing about the benefits but not telling superiors.

On a lighter subject. . . . Not starting a new thread.

This probably should have been in a separate thread, so I apologize, but Buc has some pretty good thoughts on this thread, so I'm just tagging on.

Below is an excerpt from an article. It gives you the gist. The NCAA "cracking down"? Let's see them start with Tressel. How about Auburn? This is a JOKE to me, and I thought you guys might enjoy a little sardonic LAUGHTER today:

"Mark Emmert wants to start hitting NCAA rule-breakers hard.

The governing body’s president said Tuesday he wants schools that violate the rules to pay a stiff penalty—one that’s punitive enough to make coaches and others think twice about cheating.

“We need to make sure our penalty structure and enforcement process imposes a thoughtful level of concern, and that the cost of violating the rules costs more than not violating them,” Emmert said.

He offered no specifics, though Emmert already has taken a tough tack.

A little more than 13 months after being hired as the NCAA’s new president, Emmert acknowledged he has committed more resources to enforcement, which is now led by vice president Julie Roe Lach.

That’s not the only change.

In an effort to make the process more transparent, Emmert and Lach opened up the NCAA’s Hall of Champions for the first “Enforcement Experience”—a mock investigation into an infractions case. About two dozen reporters participated Tuesday in the daylong forum, which provided a glimpse into everything from tracking violations to infractions committee deliberations.

The goal is to make the enforcement staff more efficient."

Sorry if that was a little long, but c'mon. Hitting the rule breakers hard? Hit UGA with a four game suspension of our best player, while letting Alabama get off with only two games for theirs. Now OSU will get a TINY little slap on the wrist, no (meaningful) scholarship limitations, no "lack of institutional control". Nothing.

More efficient? They new about A.J. in August of last year and sat on it until the most meaningful games of the year, only to announce that we wouldn't get him back until the season was effectively over. They dragged their feet and dragged their feet. The NCAA is a sick joke.

thriller, read the same article. Both you and averagedawg hit the nail on the head.

Sure hope that Tressel returns to OSU and learned the art of telling the truth. Send Tressel to obedience class and all will be ok . . . . Emmert like Slive and others are a joke.

This is just the beginning shot. There is going to be a war if Tressel and OSU move around the many charges that are hanging and proper enforcement is not made. They will have Southern Cal and many others screaming from the rafters. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.
