The city of Nashville had a referendum to use taxpayer's money for the Titans' stadium.
Easily passed.
Meanwhile, the schools suck, the infrastructure is falling apart, and oh yes, the team sucks.
As a kid in LaGrange, I remember the Calloways building a great high school stadium.
What happened to giving back?
That's why I rarely watch professional sports.
averagedawg as a young pup in Columbus, Georgia, I spent some quality time at Calloway Gardens and the Pine Mountain area. Bo Callaway and the family did many good and worthwhile projects for all to enjoy. Most of the money spent came from the family.
Same goes for the Tampa Bay team getting excessive, except . . . . folks down here said what the heck. Ownership took the money from the American football team and deposited it in England. A different kind of football. Folks had enough, empty seats began popping up more and more as the season and years passed on. One of the big promotions, if not the largest now is trying to get folks back in the stadium. Guess what, ownership realized that raising prices year after year killed the "base" that had been built over many years. Tampa's new staduim was built along the same lines as Blank is trying to do now. Taxpayers money and raise those ticket prices.
Must say this averagedawg, this is also happening in college football. I think that UGA's president has the same type background, meaning spending money where it should not be spent. In an article that I read recently in different places, mention was made not only about students not attending the games, vacant seats were beginning to become more numerous. Remember a short time back when our university was demanding the sum of 10k if you wanted "preferential treatment". AJ had to sit for his lack of judgment, wonder why the same game plan does not apply to the higher ups . . .
Empty seats change minds. Another reason that McGarity was brought in. Prior to his arrival, wonder if any changes would have been made that all of us are witnessing now. Coaches and administration were making big money before the changes, then it appears that someone or many got a wakeup call. Butts in seats do matter.
