Pro Style vs Spread

Kentdaddy,

I'm going to have to agree to disagree.

You may not care about the NFL but I can guarantee that most of these recruits do. I think QBs especially take that in consideration when choosing a school.

I also believe if guys like Tebow and Newton were so common then everyone would be running a version of the spread option. Guys that are 6-3 230 lbs. run a 4.5 40 and that can fire the %^&*ing pigskin are few and far between.

Agreed there are quality option QBs out there but not the likes of Tebow or Newton.

Go Dawgs!!!!

Think that I would take that one step further. Not all schools that run the option have as many athletes supporting their QB's as Florida and Auburn have. It is still a team game and usually the best team wins. For it to be suggested that Tebow did not have superior talent surrounding him is far from the truth. Same to be said for Newton.

These guys along with their teammates can win against poorly conditioned teams, or teams that are far from being called talented clubs. Auburn had a couple of close calls this year. Alabama made Tebow shed tears when they proved to him that football is a team game.

Next level, NFL, lots of big, fast, mean athletes (on the same team). They are paid handsomely to do the things that Fairley supposedly did for free. What a dumb ass he was, Cam's father did not subscribe to that theory and thus far it is worth millions.

In the MNC game, Cam found out that he needed a running back.

Some of the schools today are running the score up on anyone that they can. There is a reason for that . . . . even though the points come against teams that aren't equipped to compete, the point spreads are one of the main things that get these schools in the MNC.

At UGA we choose not to run the score up, that is if we can score against teams like UCF.

More and more teams are running the spread or some version of it. Athletes like Tebow and Newton are dime a dozen on the baskbetball courts around the nation. I remain unimpressed.

Denard Robinson is a stud in the making and a better athlete than either Newton or Tebow. The spread style offense is just getting going. In a few years there will be 10 Tebows running around. Tebow was purely a function of the system he ran. Cam Newton is a big tight end who can throw (wasn't he originally recruited at TE).

That offense is hard to defend right now because it is somewhat newer. The college game like the NFL is cyclical. Defenses eventually catch up and then the next big thing comes along.

Agree kd

Although most of the sec is still basically pro - most of them (except us) at least have some spread type plays

Good news Buc

Scott-Wesley - though we might have lost him - my concern is I don't think we have the offensive minds to utilize his talents - thus another possibly big impact player never reaches full potential - but maybe things will change now that we've paid cmr about 30 million $'s and he finally will have time to focus on football
