Hey Buc , I agree with you to a point. I think if they cant get a part time job in college that they do deserve somthing, enough to get by. But not more. because they are getting a free ED. And I also fear giving these young men and women money before they know how to handle themselves I fear it could lead to more bad temptations and a sense of they have already made it, so to speak if you know what i mean. I feel that is why college football is better than the pros. because the pros are already millionares and feel like they no longer need to give 110%. I love college football because its pure to a point. or as pure as you can get these days I mean. Nascar is a whole another thing I could go on forever. Yes Dale jr is another Kyle petty. I am a Dale SR fan forever and like Jr. But he is nothing like his Daddy, as we all know. And yes corperate America has ruined Nascar by its Political correctness of getting rid of everything Southern. Nascar was a southern sport, now its not and it is suffering. They should have kept dancing with the one one that brought them!!!!!! when they got rid of Ward Burton because of the way he talked and started pumping up guys like kyle and kurt busch and Toyota that was it for me, LOL. Anyway love your posts as always. GO DAWGSSS!!!!!!

Hey Buc

Understand what your saying - UGA cleared over 40 million dollars PROFIT on football alone last year - BUT I don't think you could begin to pay them - would move them from amateur to professional - besides you'd probably have to pay ALL athlete’s not just football - then you'd probably have to pay all students - the lawsuits would never stop

I agree with you that especially the football players at UGA are contributing to this large sports profit - but it takes a lot of money to keep all the facilities up to standard while continuing to update the facilities and to pay the staff - I bet that figure is pretty large itself - I think last year they also made a 2 million dollar donation to the school - it's gotten to be a really big business - can we buy stock

Been reading about the conference calls that Saban and others have been having with the nfl - I think they are going to work out something that will put strict penalties in place for violators - will it stop it all - no - some will still do it - it's too much money

Also agree there's probably something with this AJ thing - lawyers involved ? - something's up - may not be "bad" but must be something not quite kosher - oh well - sure would be nice if we didn't have to think about all this sort of crap and just enjoy the games like we used to in the good ole days before it became too big

1. Dang......this world is all about MONEY
2. Agree with sadlerdawg......would open up a HUGE can of worms with another HUGE domino affect.
3. It is and always has been an honor and a priviledge to recieve a college scholarship and to represent your university. To some kids that's a $100M+ education.......can't we hold on to SOME values and not let the almighty dollar rule?..... GREED, haven't we learned anything from that the last 2 years???....just look around.......

4. Don't the player get a small monthly allowance around $450-$500 anyway?

I'm biased because I'm a traditionalist.......oh........and in my business, I've seen first hand what GREED can achieve.

That profit goes back into the athletics program though and allows all the sports access to better facilities so if you start paying them you have to take away money which would end up being in violation of title IX and then the womens programs would be asking for payment. We all know most sports dont make money and are funded by football, so how do you propose paying them? Do they start cutting budgets for other sports or just drop them completely? Pretty soon you would get down to just football basketball and maybe baseball then I guess vollyball to even out the sports offered. While UGA may not have a problem paying players out of their funds, there are quite a few Div I places that would, do they just stop sports completely?

Most kids, that will make millions take out insurance policies against injuries, bottom line is, you cant start giving them money without paying every athlete across the board.

Like it or not, football and basketball(at some schools) support almost every other sport.
