Ogletree . . . What!!!

Guys, I just don't get it. There are way too many loose ends to this. Supposedly, he stole a $35 helmet 3 months ago, and is know turning himself in. There are an endless amount of ideas that could take place about what really happened, and to be honest I don't really think it matters. It is just another incident that puts us back under the bad spotlight. This stuff has got to stop. I am hoping that somehow this was a misunderstanding.

I have seen quite a few blogs ripping CMR. I really don't know what the guy is supposed to do. He can't baby sit these kids 24-7. He can try to guide them along the best that he can but he can't hold their hands.

As far as punishing them, all he can really do is suspend them or kick them off the team. Suspending them would probably be the worst punishment he can hand down. If he kicks them off the team, these guys will just transfer to another D1 school, and he will left with one less player.

That is just the problem kids these days. It doesn't matter how severe the penalties are because some kids will break them no matter what. Kids are more selfish now, and if they do get kicked off they just end up landing at another prestige program a few years later. It is sad because the media spends more time focusing on the handfull of kids that cannot behave, and forget about the bundle of kids that do the right thing. I guess the ole saying " a few bad apples can ruin the whole bunch" applies to these guys.

Good read AllDawgs5. Agree that CMR cannot hold these guys hands. However, I think this is the 9th arrest this year, somewhere in that vacinity. Apparently the message is not getting through to all.

Guess a classic case that backs up what you said is . . . Ole Miss. Masoli (sp.?) theft and here he and the coach are trying their best to get him on the football field. Forgiving and moving on is one thing, think Masoli had 2 or 3 problems at Oregon. Stealing . . . NOT GOOD.

One thing for sure, AO was in possession of the head gear, if it was given to him by someone else, young man better speak up. AO has the size, speed and superior coaching at UGA that will surely insure a place for him at the next level. Think a lot of these youngsters today were given too much room to roam in their formative years.

I say this because it is true. Coach Bowden lost control after several years at FSU. Players basically went on a tear, doing things that proved they were not being controlled. Not saying this is CMR's fault, don't jump me too hard. It appears to be an awful lot like FSU back in the day. Many similarities.

If a player can't control himself on or off campus, why should anyone suspect that they will make the right choices with their teammates on the field. Just asking . . . .

AllDawgs5,

Great post!
Agree w/all of what you said. CMR nor any other coach in American can serve as a round-the-clock babysitter for 85 young men. However, I do believe you are correct, SUSPENSIONS are the most powerful of the publicly visible punishments that CMR can hand down...as Buc eluded to, CTG & others can lay down some severe punishment "behind the scenes".

I guess I'm just at the point where I feel CMR needs to draw a very straight, distinct line in the sand & put it on the record for the whole team to understand; if you get in trouble with the law, (no matter what the circumstances, no matter how minor the charges, no matter where you are listed on the depth chart) AT A MINIMUM, you will be suspended for X number of games.

Maybe CMR is headed that direction but I think we ALL agree here, none of us like the bad publicity that is being brought on the University & us loyal fans by the extremely foolish choices of a few of the UGA football players.

And on that note, I just hope the coaches & players take out some frustration on them Ragin' Cajuns come high Noon tomorrow!

Agree Buc

This reminds me of the criminol period at fsu

I’m sick of this crap - this is out of control - something has to be done

Either we’re just not recruiting the right guys or there is something very wrong in the program once they get to UGA

Buc, good point on FSU and Bowden. Toss Miami in there also. Just seems to go in cycles.

The whole college football process is a road filled with land mines. The one thread seem to be poor judgement. WE- AO -TK all doing something they had no business doing.

What's with hotel gate and the agent trip to Miami... judgement or lack of.

We can't hold a kids hand 24/7 if we have to then I question his value to the team.

This to shall pass, may we gain and learn. In this case CTG will not spare the rod. AO will have to earn his way back.

Have a safe weekend, Go Dawgs !

RD........problem in the recruiting business is we've got to recruits these guys and just take the chance or UF, Bama, UT, LSU etc will get them. Have to play the % game and hope the bad apples will be under 5%.

Catch-22
