If I were going to move to that area, I would look at Dalton or some place up in the northwest corner of the state where Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee meet. Like on the Georgia part of Lookout Mountain.
That area has all the benefits of living in the northern, mountainous part of Georgia, plus the Chattanooga metro area is there if you need it.
I think the best nature in the northern part of the state is in Rabun country thanks to Tallulah Gorge and the Chatooga river, but Clayton is in the middle of nowhere. In the northeast part of the state, you've still got Cloudland Canyon, Lookout Mountain, and Desoto Falls/Little River Canyon over in AL, not too far from Amicalola falls, plus Chattanooga is there for things like better dining variety, better choice of doctors/hospitals, etc, and since north Georgia isn't as wide as central and south GA, the stuff over on the east side of the state isn't THAT far away like a 1.5 hr drive.

I live in Dalton and it is not a bad place to live but If I had to move I would look a little more north. Ringgold is very nice. If you want mountains and scenery this is a nice area to live and plenty of Red and Black. There is a Whitfield County Bulldog club in Dalton. Only down side is all the Tech fans (but not too many) and alot of pesky Volunteer fans.

I am less worried about volunteer orange after years of gator orange. They are similar, but the volunteers are more gullible dumb and can be distracted with shiny objects where as the gator fans are belligerent dumb and can only be put down with sheer force or blue jean shorts and canned beer.

I appreciate the help from everyone. We are going to have to take a road trip this summer to see which places have some altitude and are a little cooler during the summer.
