A couple of questions for the board . . .

What is the most important thing that UGA can do this year to improve the Offense? Leaves a lot of room for discussion . . . me thinks.

What is the most important thing that UGA can do this year to improve the Defense? Leaves a lot of room for discussion . . . me thinks.

While I used the words \"most important\" . . . that of course is in the eyes/mind of the Dawg Fan.

I go first. . .

Think that the offensive line is the key to the offense. While we have three inexperienced QB's, they are not QB's devoid of talent. The other parts such as RB's, TE's and Receivers seem to be more than average SEC talent.

Defensively one thing that sticks out in my mind are the DB's and Safeties. Appears that we will be in a lot of man coverage. If the Defensive Backfield can match-up in man, I will go on the record saying that UGA will win 10 games. Not limited to 10, just think that is a realistic number. If the Defensive side of the ball stays relatively healthy, when we get 4 or 5 games under our belts, this bunch will be entirely different than the beginning of this season.

I did not use players names, but there are many names that could enter this thread.

Jump in, the water is fine . . . . :woohoo:

I agree about the O line. If we can't run the ball we are in trouble. I beleave we can run against most teams early but at some point our QB will have to be able to throw the ball down field. I think we are in the same boat we were in this year at QB. Who ever the QB is he will look great in some games and look bad in others. We just can't put the game in our QB's hands this year.
my 3 keys: Play calling, O line to set the run, and QB mistakes (lack of)

The D will be all about adjusting this year. Thats includes the coaching stlye comming from the NFL to the spread option college game to the players actually learning something as they go. Players should be excited that they will not have to rely just on talent now and actually learning the game.

It all revolves around the D line and can we finally get some preasure on the QB. i think we will have one of the fastest Defenses in the country this year. 2 keys here: stop the run and put presure on the QB (simple stuff). I think it really is that simple for our D this year. If we can't do that consistantly this year we will be 9-3 at best. Schedule is in our favor this year though.

Great discussion Buc this should be interesting topic.

Buc.. with you on the \"D\" being key. I have said before I look for several areas that will help the \"O\"..short field don't have to have 80 plus yard drives every time. Take aways...huge opportunity
Much better to have a seasoned line in front of a green QB which we have. Turn and hand the ball off.. and let our backs pound the rock. This will make the passing game and the qb reads much easier. Special teams..two best kickers in college ball and better coverage. I am with you first test will be Sept. 11 in Columbia. We kick and eat chicken it will go a long way to making a 10 win seaason possible. Go Dawgs

golferdawg, with you on the speed of the defense. If Smith is a part of the Defensive Backfield this year, could and will see a lot of balls being picked off and moving \"real fast\" in the other direction. Would like to see Smith settle in at corner.

yd1, I was curious how long it would take for someone to mention Special Teams. This board is too talented to pass on that.

Agree that there is going to be a lot of learning ahead for the Defense. The beautiful part of that statement is that once established, coaches on defense can plug new talent in YEAR after YEAR. Will mean so much to our recruiting efforts. The \"guessing game\" came to an end with the hiring of Coach Grantham.

Tip my hat to both of you Dawgs.

Thks Buc....on the subject of Spec Teams CMR has tasked this to himself as well as to his staff to develop a plan to bring Spec Team play to a higher level. ST's will not be a warmed over Oh well we just gave up a big runback, now \"D\" go pull our butts out of the ringer. ST's will be a weapon that has been missing for way to long. It is a different air here in Athens this spring, no jive or hype talk. Coaches and players same page, we have not done a thing yet.... focus... effort... no taking a play off.... eye of the tiger !! This is going to be a fun group to watch.. get better and better. Go Dawgs

Offense: Hold onto the ball and reduce penalties

Defense: Create Turnovers and reduce penalties

Special Teams: We have to cover Kickoffs better. Hopefully that means no more directional kickoffs and playing our lanes like we have for over 100 years.

In a nutshell, DRASTICALLY improve our turnover ratio on both sides of the ball and reduce our penalties.
