Vols’ trustees contact Fulmer after Kiffin exit
Former Tennessee coach was fired in 2008 after 17 seasons at helm

Several members of Tennessee's board of trustees have contacted former Volunteers coach Phillip Fulmer about returning to the school to become its athletic director, or possibly even its coach, ESPN reports.

Fulmer was fired in 2008 after 17 seasons at Tennessee, where he compiled a 152-52 record and led the Vols to the 1998 national championship. He was replaced by Lane Kiffin, who is leaving Tennessee for USC after just one 7-6 season.

Hiring Fulmer would be the latest crazy turn in a story that started with Pete Carroll deciding to leave USC for the Seattle Seahawks. After being turned down by Jacksonville Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio, the Trojans moved quickly and unexpectedly to hire Kiffin, a former Carroll assistant who claimed Tuesday night that USC is the only school that could have drawn him away from Tennessee.

Kiffin's abrupt departure is the latest bit of egg on the face of Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton, who has been dogged in recent months by minor recruiting violations for the football program, as well as arrests of Volunteers football and basketball players.

There situation is easy or should be, just go get david cutcliff, whenhe was at UT they were good any time he left they were not good, just check there records with cutcliff and without him in there program, cant believe they didnt get him to begin with instead of lame the jackass!!

Coach Cutcliffe is the head coach at Duke. If anyone went after him, would that not be a little off base. I am thinking that he is heavily into his recruiting for Duke, and what happens to the young men who are being recruited by that university if he was to leave . . . . sounds a bit like what happened at Tennessee.

Personally have always liked Coach Cutcliffe, did an outstanding job at Ole Miss in my mind.

I hear what your saying, I know it may not be the right thing, but in todays dog eat dog college football world you know how it goes, I really just wonder why they didnt promote cutcliff when they had the chance and get rid of phil the hand writing was on the wall back then, but I guess its easy to look back. anyway this is fun to watch, just wished we had our staff together already and could take full advantage of this situation. OSD you are so right . . . . it is always easy to be the Monday morning QB. It makes my skin crawl when I watch what happened in Tennessee. I have stated on this board that my number one enemy next season is Tennessee, not Florida. Should not say this, but I have feelings for UT, what happened to that university should not happen, or allowed in college sports. Other side of that coin . . . they did that to themselves.

Yeah thats true, And your right Buc its not right when you think of the players of all these schools involved. Because when Mora got fired in seattle it set this whole chain reaction that is happening, and I guess I was thinking out loud as to what the Tenn AD could do to calm the storm at UT quickly cause I know its a riot up there right now.
