Coaching Defense -- Ask Bud

Hey Yall, Well I am sitting here again and half of me is saying to myself, just wait a little longer and they will get KS. Because surely our AD is not this incompetent. And then the other part of me thinks why are we in this situation after all when CMR and BVG were here and our AD was Vince Dooley we were finally headed in the right direction just another yr or 2 with CMR an BVG and we would have been in the promised land I liked to think, but then out of the blue all of the sudden BVG leaves, and for what ah LB coach pos, LOL? And Look I hear yall when yall say well he didnt get along with some people but you know wheather I was in school or at work There was always a person or 2 people didnt like or get along with, but as long as they were producing and making your company successful you need to be professional and get along at work for the good of the company or in this case the team. Because I sure wished our AD could have made them all get along, long enough for a championship because if I could have seen a championship coming you would think UGA AD could have seen it and they could have made them happy eonugh untill then. Now with that said I know its all could ah would ah should ah!! But now I think look at these other ADs protecting there DCs while we come after them. they are being proactive and keeping there DC s and making them happy. Somthing our AD should have done yrs ago. and then when BVG left he should have not settle so easy for CWM but actually done some work and looked for a real DC. Because we all know if you looked at CWM record before he got the job he was not ready. and that is my problem we need a real pro active AD not just someone who goes along to get along figure head. All he is doing is throwing money at them, no real sales skills, any of us could throw money at someone that takes no leadership or exp. cmon!! If UGA dosent Have KS in there pocket then I am saying we also need to be looking for a real AD!!! UGA should not be going around with our hat in our hand, He is making us look ridiculous!!

Makes me wonder about some of the younger coaches out there that have not been afforded the opportunity to move up in the ranks. Brings to mind coaches like Smart and Muschamp to name a couple.

Muschamp has been afforded the opportunity to move up in the ranks...he's the contracted coach-in-waiting when Mack Brown retires at Texas. Meaning when Mack Brown retires, Will Muschamp will coach Texas. Kirby probably gets the same deal if a) 'Bama wins on Thursday and b) no one else hires him immediately after 'Bama wins on Thursday.

Sometime ago when I was in the publishing business dapolla, one of the pieces of business at hand was to finish a statement or thought. I neglected to do either one. What I was trying to get across before the brain fart was Smart and Muschamp have moved up as you pointed out. My reasoning is that there are more coaches like these two growing on the vine and need to be watched closely. Sometimes (often) I confuse myself.

No worries, Buc. The most egregious long-term no-hire (besides Sylvester Croom, of course) is Charlie Strong. I'm incredibly glad that that situation was rectified this off-season...I don't think any assistant in college football -- not Muschamp, not Turner Gill, not Kirby Smart, not Bud Foster, not NOBODY -- has ever deserved a head coaching job more and been given fewer offers than Charlie Strong. Sure, he may have worked for the devil and his minions (Notre Dame, Florida, SCarolina), but he's a talented son-of-a-gun, and he's a HUGE part of the REASON we hate those teams. Charlie Strong's defenses held Mark Richt's Georgia teams without an offensive touchdown against South Carolina until 2003. And even in THAT blowout I don't think we scored one until the second quarter!

I got off on a tangent. What were we talking about?

Oh yeah, DCs. Relax. Shreveport proved that even bucky-tail GRAD STUDENTS can conjure up a better defense than Willie. We'll get someone competent. If we don't, expect a new head coach by 2012.

Wise hire by Louisville. Lots of conversation by high school athletes in Florida about Coach Strong.

Know many of the regulars on this board have been in Coach Strong's camp for a long time. Next 2-3 years anyone on Louisville's schedule will have their hands full. It will be interesting to see how many hats are in the ring for Coach Strong in less than 5 years.

If coaches were on the \"big board\" I would buy all of CS's stock that I could put my hands on.

Small email update from my contact.....

Most of the speculation right now is centering on Dallas defensive line coach Todd Grantham. Who knows if there’s anything to it or not.

On a separate note, it looks like Rennie and Reshad are gone. It probably wouldn’t matter anyway, but their not knowing who the new DC will be is not helping. I think they have to announce by the 15th or so. If it is Grantham, Dallas may still be in the playoffs at that point.

wlayton, Todd Grantham is beginning to make a lot of sense. Did not know much about him, but have been poking around since you brought his name up and he is impressive. I am with you on wanting a coach with NFL experience, and TG has that.

Coach Grantham has worked under Coach Beamer, Saban, Mora and others and has compiled a pretty impressive record. With the Cowboys now, watching the way that defensive front has become a dominating crew, impressive. Seems to be a strong advocate for the 3/4 defense, which I like a lot.

Time lines perplexing with Coach Richt moving around a bit, but the amount of pay that is being awarded to coaches these days, seems like Coach Grantham could be the one.

Also, Coach Grantham worked under Coach Foster at VTech, so it would make sense that Coach Grantham has probably had some conversations with Coach Foster and his dealings with Coach Richt.

I agree with many, just get this selection right and let us get back to solid defensive football. Reading Coach Grantham's football history, I would be really excited to have him on the UGA Campus. :woohoo:
