OSD, here's the problem I have with the tone of your posts. You seem to think that Damon Evans' only job is to make sure that the football team succeeds on the field. You also seem to imply that the \"big money\" male-dominated sports (football and basketball) are the only ones on campus that matter. The fact is that we support several men's and women's sports. Evans' job is to keep each and every one of those teams viable, keep their athletes in class, keep their grades up, keep good coaches here and hire good coaches away from other schools, keep a positive face on the University and make it an attractive place for student-athletes, coaches, trainers and non-athlete students to come. Brian Van Gorder was on his way out the door MIDWAY THROUGH DAMON EVANS' FIRST YEAR AS AD.
Also, the fact is that Charlie Strong's race, not his own decisions, kept him at Florida for so long. Even Charlie has said that he wanted to be a head coach long before now, and that the NCAA \"is getting better\" about hiring black head coaches in football. If Strong had been white, he'd've been gone from Florida a LONG time ago; hell, he'd've been a better choice for USC's head coach than Spurrier. Believe that.
