Time to go to the woodshed about the celebrating

15 years 1 month ago #24023 by BubMcUGA
whether they should or should not be able to celebrate and to what degree are all really besides the point. in a game where so much is left up for grabs, you have to be able to control the few things that are controllable if you wnt to succeed, especially at this level. celebration penalties are one of them. hand the ball back to the ref, and GATA!

BubMcUGA you got my point.

Take the variables out of the game and leave the team celebrating until after the victory.

Anyway, it's tacky and egotistical. Plays don't win games. Teams do.

For winning the Natty give every Dawg a bone AND prime rib steak.

I have only been a member for a little while and have never posted, but I can't help it. Sure, we shoulda, coulda, woulda played to our potential and the call at the end would never have mattered. But sometimes it just doesn't go that way. We played horrible in the first half, but never gave up and stayed in the game to the end. Does anyone expect a young kid who just scored what should have been the winning touchdown to not be elated. Celebration penalties are about excess. Was there taunting? Did anyone from the bench run on the field? No and no. It was a simple show of emotion that has been seen every Saturday forever; especially in circumstances such as those. The burden should be on the older, wiser guy in the striped suit who gets paid good money to ensure fairness, but whose job is to remain as unobtrusive as possible. He certainly did not do that. A team can fight and overcome most obstacles in their wasy, but not poor officiating. Why didn't the guy in the white hat talk to his crew and wave that penalty off? At some point in the fourth every play gets reviewed by the booth. Why doesn't that guy have the authority to overturn what was such a ridiculous call? I just hope the officials have some type of review committee who looks at their performance. It's just a shame that we keep having to be the victims. Well, that is my crying for this week. I feel much better now. Love the Dawgs.

SBR1969,

Glad you jumped in there. This is going to prove to be an interesting forum thread. I hear what you are saying and agree somewhat but my gripe is this:

The one thing you demonstrated very well is the \"over celebrating\" is ambiguously called by officials. That makes it an \"out of control\" variable put into the hands of an overexcited player.. Take it out of play by not doing it.

As you can see celebrating the \"winning touchdown\" backfired. It was not the winning touchdown and it greatly helped the opposing team defeat us. Whoops.

This is how it should be done in my humble opinion: Take a bow, wave to the crowd, then go to the bench because the team will want to congratulate you also.

Teach these young men some discipline and put their energy into playing the game. Celebrate as a team after the game.

2 more cents worth,

Question.......something to ponder.

Has anybody noticed how our penalty totals have gone up since the \"celebration in the endzone\" in the UF game 2 years ago?

HMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmm.............?

There was no taunting.
I saw nothing to call a penalty.
Just my opinion.
You cannot take the emotion out of the game.
