Time to go to the woodshed about the celebrating

15 years 1 month ago #23986 by stevedawg
The team defeated themselves with all the celebrating on the field. Out of control egos never help any situation.

In my day you were expected to be humble in those situations. Celebrating with more than a smile and a wave to the crowd was considered tacky.

How about a team rule... NO on field celebrating. Period. Then we can quit trying to define what celebrating is and play football.

Meanwhile take them to the wood shed and let them know who is going to do the celebrating and when they will be doing it.

I would like to agree with this but come on.

We are willing to admit the fact that these guys are kids. Let them have a little fun for crying out loud. I can understand flagging blatant celebrations that are gaudy and tasteless but nothing that was flagged today was any of that. I personally believe that the Dawgs got called and the ref had to think twice about that one and gave us a make up call after the damage had been done.

Personally none of those flags should have been thrown.

We just happen to be the team that had to suffer from the official's sense of self-righteousness.

Go Dawgs!!!!

I acknowledge the fact that these are young players, and it is only natural to want to celebrate after making a great play, but I think you have to draw the line after celebration penalties start affecting outcomes. The bottom line is that this is a controllable problem, and has to be dealt with. Penalties in general are plaguing this team. We all saw the disturbing graphic CBS posted. I shakes my confidence in the coaching staff even further. I think the only penalties that shouldn't go severely punished are penalties where our guys are being aggressive and trying to make a good play. We don't want to take the fire out of our players; we need all we can get. Think about it, though. What kind of a message would it send if after every great play, our players handed the ball to the referee as if it was business as usual. I think that would be more intimidating to me, but that's just my opinion.

The penalties are the least of the problems, lets start with cox not hitting wide open receivers and our defense not getting tight until they let them inside the 20.

That penalty shouldnt have mattered at all.

Correct ugaa, that penalty should have never mattered. However, it disturbs me that these bs calls are affecting these games. The hit at OSU was a momentum changer. People can say what they want, but that hit was clean. That rule has no place in football. Then the celebration penalty. These guys should be able to congratulate their stud making a great play. All I heard all day was AJ versus the LSU secondary. This unit was challenged and at the most important time of a football game they stepped up. The stadium was packed and exploded. They did nothing more than run down the field and congratulate their team mate. What is wrong with that? NOTHING! That penalty was a momentum changer! Had neither one of those penalties been called, we would have never heard the other team complain. It is sad when the officials affect the outcome of the game. Our O was horrible most of the day. However, this team showed great heart and fought their rears off all day only to have an official change the momentum of the game. If the O had produced that penalty wouldn't have mattered. CORRECT, but we have CMB.
