I had heard that as well. It's been spread around today pretty well. Pat Dooley of the Gainesville Sun knows SOS very well and says it's not true. Another source has said that RR from WVU has signed a deal already and that's THE announcement coming out next week...........????

much of what is "officially" reported via the media is as source cryptic as the rumor mill within cyberspace. Check the link below, it reportedly indicates SOS staying in Columbia, but it is a news outlet in Columbia...

I am certain that a percentage of what we are hearing is true, I'm just not comfortable or confident that what "we" are hearing is complete and accurate. I've no doubt that Bama approached SOS, perhaps even offered, same is true with RR. I would, however, be very surprised if either took the job! While Bama is a storied program and recruits itself, there remains a host of myopic revisionists anxious for the next houndstooth fedora wearing savior. All the money, contracts, facilities and promises aside, one need only look at the string of former Bama coaches bleached bones left in their wake!

A strong Bama indirectly helps UGA, as that they directly compete with and recruit against UT, LSU and Allbarn. While I've always looked upon Bama a true brother in the SEC, I'm afraid their desires to capture a marque coach will ultimately end with settling for someone significantly less....

Just my .02.............

In my opinion, I think that RR would be a very good fit for Bama. He has that tough persona, Bama historically loves to run the ball (and man can WVU run the ball) and they obviously have found out that they need to go outside the "Bama family" and hire a very successful coach. I just think he's a better fit for them than SOS, based on how you have perceived Bama in the past. Tough, physical, run the ball 1st, play good D and good special teams.

and has accomplished much for WVU. If I were forced to bet between SOS and RR for the Bama job, I'd put my money on RR. However, this seasons HC vacancies will undoubtedly give rise to a few more, perhaps higher profile HC jobs in 07. Given Malcontent Moore's proclivity to hamstring and micromanage at Bama, I wonder if RR wants to take on that particular challenge or wait a year and move to Tallahassee?!?!?

Instead of giving the Urban Whiner advise on the SECCG; like no pointing, no staring and no crying, perhaps CMR should contact Moore and offer some insight on hiring rising young "coordinator" talent....It certainly worked for us!!!!

Well, I know one thing, and NC Dawg has stated it best....the turn-over rate for coaches at Bama has been god-awful the last 25 years. The 7 coaches they have had only lasted 3.5 years on the average, or something close to that figure. Not enough job security down there for a coach like Spurrier to be interested in. Come on, only 3 and a half years ??!! It takes longer than that to build a good HS team. Those folks are just too fanatical about the numbers in the W column. They had their houndstooth wearing savior when Gene Stallings was there....well, he was the MOST like Bryant, anyway. I dont think Bama is going to get a name coach. I think they are gonna have to scrape the bottom to find someone foolish enough to fall for a job with such little tolerance from the boosters.
