Sit Down...We Need to Have a Talk

I'm an avid reader of this board, and I like it when I agree with other Georgia fans. I've been reading a lot since Saturday, and I've learned something: apparently, Mike Bobo is an idiot. Georgia scored 10 points to Oklahoma State's 24, meaning we lost our opener for the first time in 13 years and perhaps helped shift the balance of power in college football from the SEC to the Big 12. Also, the Earth has rotated off its axis and is now on a collision course with the sun. Let's address the first point, though: that Mike Bobo is an idiot.

So wait...Mike Bobo is an idiot when he puts up 10 points on Oklahoma State's wispy defense, right? Is he still an idiot when he puts up 45 on Auburn's tough SEC defense, or 52 or LSU's? How about 42 on Florida's? No, because the next year he put up 10. Which makes him an idiot, right?

People: Mike Bobo did not fumble the football on his own 18. Joe Cox did. Mike Bobo did not fumble the ball on his own 49, killing a drive. Richard Samuel did. Mike Bobo did not allow a 75-yard kickoff return to Perrish Cox. The special teams did. Mike Bobo did not lose that game. The team on the field lost that game. You keep saying \"With this talent, we should win every game.\" Well, what talent do we have, if they keep dropping the ball and allowing big runbacks? The coaches aren't out there on the field playing. Perhaps we're a little overhyped on our own VERY unproven talent. Going into the game, our three tailbacks and quarterback had started a combined ONE game at their respective positions. The game Joe Cox started (against Ole Miss in 2006), he was pulled from while losing. Matthew Stafford ended up coming in for the Dawgs win, even though Joe Cox was credited with the win.

Don't get me wrong: I love Joe Cox; he's from my hometown. I'm very high on both Richard Samuel and Carlton Thomas. I think all three had HORRIBLE days. I also think that there was some suspect play-calling from the Georgia booth. But let's not pretend that Cox, Samuel and Thomas are Heisman candidates.

But who knows? Maybe we can't tell a damn thing about our talent from what happened on Saturday. Was Matthew Stafford suddenly not a number one pick in the NFL draft when he couldn't lead the Dawgs on a single touchdown-scoring drive in the 2007 South Carolina game? Was Knowshon Moreno suddenly a worthless running back because Georgia failed to score in the first half against Alabama last year? Was Herschel Walker a worse running back than Kevin McLee because he never got into the end zone against Clemson?

I love you all, as I love all of Dawg Nation. I love my kids, too, and I tell them to stop whining like babies when they do so. I'll tell you the same thing. This is a game where you can't make mistakes against good teams. Oklahoma State is a good team, and we made several mistakes against them. That's all.

...did I mention we have a game this Saturday?

Go.

Dawgs.

That is all.

Thank you! I couldn't have said it better myself, dapolla. I also have been reading all the posts since Saturday. I wish you guys would go back and read your great, inspiring, faithful posts from just a few days before the OSU game. I think some rereading is in order. Since when do we give up after ONE game and immediately point fingers. I have never played football and even I know you have to give a team time to gel before we immediately critize everything they do. I love that CMR is a saint when we win but soon is questioned if we happen to lose to a really good football team.

Mistakes are just that, mistakes. I would much rather make mistakes in non-SEC games, rather then against Carolina or Florida and then go on to learn from them for a SEC opponent. We are at home this week, the energy will be amazing, against a great rival and I think we will see changes. I do agree with dapolla, OUR PLAYERS make the mistakes and we hate it for them, but I'd like to see any one of us play with that kind of pressure and see how we fare. Giving them some credit would be fair.

Where's the love for our DAWGS? If we don't support them, even when they lose, what does that say.

Come on, guys!

Go Dawgs!

One fan's p.o.v....

Two years ago when I first found this site I criticized some posters for bitching about the Dawgs when they lost a game, and I was duly reminded that it is a fan's right to complain in such situations. It's interest on the principal we put in for supporting our team.

As fans, it's our right. Right?

Nobody here took a single step back in their love for the Dawgs because they complained about the game. I agree, Mike Bobo isn't an idiot, and that he didn't personally make those mistakes. He DID, however, abandon the successful series of downs that led to our first touchdown for...what? And all of us know, in the moments when each of us allows ourselves a moment of venting, that \"idiot\" is a euphamism, a metaphor for \"what the hell is going on with our game plan?\"

Also, the consternation with CMRs warm and fuzzy feel for the world as a whole is well documented and valid, at least from a fan's perspective. I love CMR. Want him to stay forever. God loves all of us, probably CMR a tad more than some for being a good Christian...I'm okay with that. God will forgive CMR if he rips some ass every now and then, or cuts Willie loose if Willie's defenses continue to get gashed (see the fourth quarter for evidence of gashing.)
Hell, I'll forgive CWM if the D steps up and forget anything that happened before. But, until it happens, I'm not going to like it. I'm personally not letting up on criticism of the play of the D, nor am I going to forget the DC simply because he hasn't suited up. Same with the offense.

It's easy to deride complaining and criticism, but this is a lot like life. We only complain about the things we care about. If nobody cared, this forum could be a warm and fuzzy bake sale of a thing where everybody chirped happily about all the good things Dawg. We could give over the nailbiting and hair pulling in favor of warm milk accolades, ignoring the negative because it somehow marks us as less faithful than those who choose to ignore the bad or at least not cast light upon it.

But I'm a fan. A DAWG fan. Correctly, a DAWG fanatic.

It means something to me when a running back, carrying the burden of my hopes on his shoulders, continuously trips at the merest touch of a finger. One time I can forgive, five...six times...those are my hopes he's carrying. Same with the QB. Same with the D. Same with the DC...etcetera, etcetera, ad infinitum.

Some of us never got to rip a touchdown out of the hands of a beleaguered QB in the endzone, and enjoy the spiritual awakening of winning a game on a highlight reel play. Some of us have only got as close as the back side of the hedges to the field. It doesn't lessen our joy and anguish at the play of the team. There are the hopes of millions riding on Saturdays in the fall, and if those charged with carrying them let us down, I don't think it's too much to ask forgiveness if we piss and moan a little by way of dealing with our disappointment.

Nobody came here to say they're done with the Dawgs. Won't ever happen. The loss didn't stop me from slapping a big 'ol in-your-face-mullet-wearing-gators-of-soutwest-florida oval g on the back of my Titan because I was now ashamed to be a Dawg.

I'm a fan. A DAWG fan. A DAWG fanatic.

Lose 'em all and me and my hopes will be back next year, giddy like a child on Christmas Eve as the season begins. When we win, I'll sing it loud to anyone who will listen. But again, I'm a fan, a fanatic, and if the team loses don't expect me to go quietly, or not speak my mind about the game.

I owe my hopes at least that much.

Go DAWGS.

I love to complain. I do it often. I complain about Willie at least as much as most other folks on the board. My problem with complaining only comes when it goes on too long, gets repetitive, or resembles unrealistic whining with no basis in fact. I'm not calling out anybody specifically, which is why I made this its own post. I didn't want to give the appearance of criticizing anybody for venting by replying to a specific thread.

It is Wednesday. We have been whining and moaning on this board about this game since DURING THE GAME on Saturday, and very few of us have said anything new since Sunday, let alone anything worthwhile. I grant you your need to vent. Let me vent about your venting.

Georgia football has never been a warm and fuzzy bake sale, but neither do I want dawgs.com to turn into a haven for unbridled and unsubstantiated misery and pessimism. I think we can have a happy medium.

In the last half-week, this board has fired Mark Richt, Willie Martinez and Mike Bobo several times, has relieved Joe Cox of his starting duties and has kicked Richard Samuel off the team for being fragile. Also, we've fired Coach Ball once, John Fabris once, and a host of other people. I guess I just come on here midweek to get fired up about the game. I want to be fired up about what's coming up, not miserable about what just happened.

Anyway. My three cents plus change...

GO DAWGS!!!

LimeyDawg.......THAT was one of the best posts I have read on ANY forum.

Thank you for actually verbalizing how our hearts and guts can feel from a DAWG fan....no

fanatic.;)

You know, I really think we are past the game but are concerned that there may be \"something\" that is just not \"working\" in the program and we are just not sure WHAT it is....

I've been a member of this board for a very long time,...seen Steve revamp it at least three, maybe four times. I recall the days when there was only a handful of members and we would often be overrun by rivals spewing their nonsense...But I gotta tell ya, I've never been witness to the hand wringing, skirt twisting and teeth gnashing that has flowed here since Saturday...If I was asked to encapsulate the overall response to Saturday's game in one word,...I would choose SPOILED!!!

It will be interesting to see who is vindicated and who is eviscerated following Saturday nights game, if anyone!....Leave it to another \"long toother\" to remind us of what a fan is, and who falls into that catagory!...

Still shaking my head after reading some of the threads posted since yesterday.........

GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
