Justin Houston

Houston looked good, Washington looked like a beast, Murray looked good, Thomas was fun to watch and Troupe played well except for one bad drop. Too many drops.

Gotta tell ya.....I didn't come away from the G-Day game feeling very good but I usually don't BECAUSE it's the spring game and the team is divided up. It looks like we really NEED Charles and Brown to learn the system QUICKLY. They will double Green if there is no other threats on the field. RB looks really shakey to me. Thomas is good and fun but is not a \"go to, every down\" type of back. C King just isn't physical and can't run around or juke every guy at this level. Cox is fine but you can see that Murray is the future.

After what I watched yesterday, I may postpone my predictions to 2010. Sorry to say that I came away from the game unimpressed.:( :(

Agreed, wlayton. I believe we have something special in Aaron Murray. Watching the game live, I saw his mechanics were the best of the QBs, he had a good feel for the pass rush, and made some impressive throws. I also think that Logan Gray would have made some big plays on scrambles if they weren't playing touch football with the QBs. Coming away from the G-Day game with a bad taste in your mouth is a yearly thing with me, because playing yourself is a double edged sword. Lot of points- you worry about a weak defense and vice versa. I saw guys flying after the ball on defense and that makes me feel good. Two guys we haven't talked much about is LBs Christian Robinson and Nick Williams. This Christian Robinson kid is a tackler! When he got his hands on people they went down quick. Williams was almost as impressive. LB should be the strength of our defense even though everyone is talking about the DT's. Just for the record, there was a #92 who was punting some bombs before the game!

Really good post wlayton, agree with many of the points that you made. Probably with most of them.

Couple of questions . . . .
I have watched the game (spring matchup) three times now. Who was the right tackle on Houston? Houston was coming off of the left side of the defensive line for the most part, and disrupting the offense. Best pass rusher should be coming off of the right side (blind side) because most QB's are right handed. If Houston is that good, then I am impressed. If the right tackle was that bad, o'spit.

If we had 25 or 30 or so wounded warriors on the sideline, my question would be. . . . was our second and third string players on defense that good. Understand that most of the offensive line and some backs were not there (on the field) but that is pretty impressive in my mind. Now, if the folks on the sideline (not all) play like they did last year, then there is a problem.

Who is going to be our right DE this year? Will we stay in the 4 man front all year? (For most of the year). I know that it is hard (impossible) to say who will be on the right side before the season starts. With the speed of our LB's, I still like the idea of the 3 man front. Noticed in this scrimmage that we did have 3 man fronts, quickly changed to 4 man fronts before the start of the play. Some say that the defense looked good. OK, that will fly in a scrimmage, what happens when the WAR starts?

I did not like seeing our DB's getting beat by our receivers, then seeing the receivers drop the damn ball. The QB's and receivers (not AJ GREEN) were basically new to the college game, meaning that they did not have experience.

Also, one of the announcers said that if we were going to compete with Alabama, Florida and LSU, we need to get better. Thinking that we beat LSU last year in Tiger Stadium. Beat Alabama over there year before last. Florida . . . . still makes me want to start over again and get it right.

Just venting . . . . still not crazy about CWM.

Guys, guys guys...the G-Day game is ALWAYS a bad game. It's always Red team 13, Black team 6 or soemthing of that nature. Here's why:

1) The O-line is split up. No matter what, you cannot have effective pass protection or run protection if you don't have your cohesive O-line in there.

2) Injuries. Don't need to say more.

3) Split-squad. There's no way to gain chemistry when there's a new QB/RB combination in there every five seconds. I can understand miscommunication (not dropped balls!) with the WRs because of this.

4) Who cares? It's a practice, folks. The G-Day game in 2007 was GOD-AWFUL. What happened that year?

Red and Black, Win or Lose

Buc, they may want to consider Washinton at R-DE.....he was a beast that nobody could block.

I agree dapolla, it IS just a glorified scrimmage. Just didn't feel crisp and am really concerned about RB. CK is just not physical enough and he's not playing against high school D's that he can run around or juke 4 guys to the endzone.
We've GOT to have a running game because Cox can't take over a game through the air. He's an above average college QB. Really need Brown and Charles to learn quickly.
Oh, do think Evans has found his spot on D.
