Ah, the beauty of different eras. Tiger has brought fitness and athleticism into the sport- changed the whole landscape! I believe that during a practice round at the Masters, while playing with Tiger, Jack was interviewed by a reporter who asked how good this young player could be. Jack replied and then was asked if he thought Tiger could challenge his Majors record. Jack, who also was playing with Arnold that day, replied, \"This kid could win as many Majors as Arnold and I combined\". I would have loved to see Jack and Tiger go at it today. Jack would have been a totally different player in today's game with a fitness coach, today's equipment, etc. I've got to go against you on this one, wlayton. I still have to go with Tiger, my friend. What do you think golferdawg?

Watson I couldn't agree more. I don't think Jack could've won with a broken knee! Tigers sure will is more than Nicklaus ever thought about. Talent you could flip a coin, willing yourself to win goes to Tiger. When Tiger had cymbols clapping together, cans crushing, Earl sneezing in his back swing etc. Earl sums up Tigers mental game simply saying that no one will be as mentally tough as you will become. He was right. This kid was bread for majors, Nickalus was a great golfer. There is a difference!

Hey Buc, you can sure see the different generation bias on both sides of this subject......one thing, as of TODAY....Nicklaus still has the MAJOR'S record and kinda believe he was bred for the majors as well.

People were saying THE same thing about Nicklaus in his prime.....you guys weren't even born then.

Don't get me wrong wlayton and Buc. I have always loved to watch Nicklaus play. Even though he turned pro (1962) when I was a year old, I still saw him play a lot, albeit mostly in reruns. As a teenager on the course, I was always Jack Nicklaus teeing off on 18 for the Masters. He was the man. I was reading an article recently where they were asking Jack if he played Tiger head to head, both players in their prime, if he thought he could beat Tiger. Nicklaus replied, \"I'd beat him like a drum.\" Wouldn't expect any other reply from a great champion. I'm sure Tiger feels the same way. Granted, being a little younger than you all, I get to watch Tiger play in the heat of the moment, but I also saw Jack a lot too. I still watch Jack on the Golf channel. Even though I think Tiger would win head to head, he still has a long way to go to match the career Jack had. If I had to pick the greatest golfer of all time today it would be Jack. IMO when Tiger is 50 and you ask me again..... Regardless of opinions, it will always be a great subject to debate. Two great champions.
