Diamond Dawgs open in style

Georgia's baseball team opened in style against Youngstown State. 15-2 was impressive but it was....Youngstown State. First test will be at the end of February against Arizona. Great start, though. Go Dawgs!!!

15-2 and 14-0 is an impressive start. I was reading that our #1 and #2 starters are about as good as anyone out there. Whole bullpen is back with the exception of Fields. Looks like we will close by committee this year unless someone steps up. Definitely hitting the ball. Looks promising.

Okay, I was there for the Saturday and Sunday games. Here's the deal: Justin Grimm is for REAL (he was perfect through 5 until a Georgia error rattled him, and gave up his first \"hit\" on what should have been scored an E7), and so are these freshman. On Sunday I watched Johnathan Taylor raise his batting average to .800 (!) and his OBP to .875. This kid is UNBELIEVEABLE. The rest of the frosh are for real, too, and if they keep hitting, there's going to be no contest who'll win the SEC this year. We should be well put together down the stretch to make another run at the national title if we keep hitting like this. You can say \"It's Youngstown State\" all you want, but this ain't football or basketball, folks. Baseball is about numbers, and you know that. Even when the Boston Red Sox beat the Kansas City Royals, they still beat them 4-2 or 5-0. They don't consistently score in the double digits. This is a team that can hit, run and field, and you're not going to get that everywhere.

Where I agree with you on most accounts of your post, dapolla. I must say the reason I say \"it is Youngstown State\" is because Youngstown is nowhere near the baseball powers in the nation. We were expected to beat up on them. If we go out and beat Arizona at Arizona two out of three, then we have done something. We opened with YS and pitched our best, which are usually reserved for the big series on the weekends, and beat them- like we should have. If we played them later on in the year , they would have been a Tuesday and Wednesday series, played while our aces rested their arms getting ready for the next weekend. I, sincerely, believe this year can be special.
Even though it's not other sports, if you played baseball when you were younger, you always \"licked your chops\" getting ready for a game against a team you were much better than. I agree, you can run into a pitcher who is on, and struggle against these type teams occasionally. Bottom line, prepare mentally, work hard on weak areas in your game, and HAVE FUN! These guys will never have the opportunity to relive these years. Enjoy it,you can't get it back. GO DAWGS!
