Stafford, Moreno, Atkins and the NFL draft

I have a sneaking (hopeful, really) suspicion that both MS and KM will both be back next season. They are both competitors and have some unfulfilled goals at UGA...and their stock is not as high as it could be right now. MS would surpass the other touted qb's at a combine b/c he is a better nfl qb and is dealing with an inadequate o-line at the moment (not to mention the dropsy receivers we've had lately), but right now he's not the most sought after guy. Another season with AJ catching his passes and he'll be number 1 before the combines. KM isn't ready for nfl - he makes plays on his sheer ability, but nfl defenses can contain a lot of the crazy plays he makes for himself. A few more years to mature and he'll be a top pick, and any agent worth his salt will advise him of that.

We'll see them both tween the hedges in 09....I hope...

Agents make a percentage of what players sign for on the dotted line. Any agent that is a business man is going to tell these kids to get in now while the gettin' is good. Otherwise any agent would be losing a ton of scratch not waving the Benjamins in front of these kids and considering the difference between a contract's value this year versus next.

The players families and the current coaching staff are the ones that need to help these young impressionalbe minds in making the right decision for them. CMR and his staff must be honest with KM and MS on ther abilities and how they will compare to the speed and talent in the NFL. I agree KM needs another year to get to that level. MS may only be behind Sam Bradford at OK in the draft, but would beat him out in the combine. If you think about it by position a RB can make more of an impact as a rookie. One reason KM may be leaning toward the pros. QB is not that easy, but when you are considered one of if not the best in your class you almost have to make that arm a multi million dollar one.

I would love to see them both stay, but money talks and only time will tell.

Let's focus on the Nats and how we'll stifle that running attack!

Agree with your point DawginLA about the agents wanting the most cash - I was talking about KM there and I think he'll make more by waiting another season at least, and hopefully he'll be advised that way.

Can't agree that he'll make more, but he will have a better rookie season and make more of an impact his first year with another year of experience as a starter in the SEC.

I think all of them will return next year. They are competitors, and they want to win. Even though we still had a good season this year, Moreno, Stafford, Atkins, and every other member of this team wants one thing... a National Championship. Competitors are hungry... and you have to feed them.

Guys!!!! They will NOT make more money by waiting another year. Because of the collective bargaining agreement, signing bonuses will possibly drop so drastically that all potential 1st and 2nd round Jr's and redshirt sophomores will probably come out. If you were going to drop from 10MM to 2MM, you would come out too. It could cost MS 10MM-15MM easily by coming back.

charlestondawg, I hope you are right and they do come back but I know a guy that's a NFL insider that has stated that the talk around the league is that MS will be THE #1 QB picked in the draft, ahead of Bradford or anybody in the Big 12.....Bradford is only a sophomore anyway.
