Bottom line........I said it wasn't in line with your rules but whether we were bad, good or indifferent, SOS kicked our ever lovin' butts and totally OWNED us.

He doesn't concern me in the least at USC because he doesn't (nor will he ever) have the athletes that he had at UF.

Buc, I remember those Bobby Dodd years. As much as I hate Tech, you had to give it to Dodd, a man of great character, reminds me of Coach Richt. They didn't deserve him. I remember as a kid in the fifties when it was cool to be a Tech fan. I always hated them.

averagedawg, we moved to south Atlanta, Forest Park, in 1952. At that time GT was in the SEC and they were a force. First game that I watched on TV was a GT game. However, my roots were solidly in the UGA stable. My uncle, Dr. William Brown had been with the University of Georgia since the early forties. Many of my days as a youngster in the forties were spent in Athens and Gainesville with relatives. There I go again. . . .

Coach Dodd had a serious problem with the University of Alabama, the cheap shot, and I mean a CHEAP SHOT that eventually ended with GT leaving the SEC. The following information comes from Wikipedia and does it not sound a lot like our Coach Richt and the awarding of scholarships.

He (Coach Dodd) was involved in encouraging Georgia Tech to leave the SEC, which it did in the early 1960s. Two of the important factors in this decision were that Dodd thought that Tech could become a successful independent like Notre Dame, and the SEC began limiting scholarships (before the NCAA imposed its own scholarship restrictions). The problem with the SEC scholarship limitations is that Dodd did not believe in exploiting student-athletes; he thought that if a player is promised a scholarship but ends up not being able to take the field due to injury, using up NCAA eligibility, or simply not making the squad that the player should still receive the scholarship.

Steve Detwiler is the freshest, and yes, he MURDERED us with only one thumb in those two games, especially the third game.

Tony Dorsett singlehandedly took away the 1976 National Championship.

Danny Wuerffel owned us. Under that same rationale I agree with the Erik Ainge assessment.

Steve Slaton won that whole Sugar Bowl by himself, especially with that 52-yard touchdown run. Sure, we outscored them after the first quarter, but all they really needed was that touchdown to beat us. Otherwise we win the game 35-31.

No, you know what? I can't shake Detwiler from my mind.

Buc and Averagedawg, you guys are talking 'bout some old school stuff there. That was WAY before my time. That is stuff you read about in the history books. Seems like there were ALOT of good rivalries back in those days.

fire_dawg, you are so right, it is some old stuff. I promise you that the intensity that the Dawgs back in the day had was just as intense as it is now. Got a good chuckle from your post.
