Thanks for the compliment on the 'runaway beer truck' line. It was all I could think of to describe the not-so-fleet-of-foot Stafford when I watched him cover that 30 yards in the Tech game.
It's kind of strange to see the Veer come back to college football isn't it? Although it's not the \"pure\" form of the split-back Veer or even the I-Veer that Nebraska used to run, it's still a form of the Veer, because there is always an un-blocked defender, usually the DE, on the side of the line the outside veer is called. The un-blocked man is then \"veered\" to where the offense wants him to go due to the read the QB and RB make.....hence the name 'Veer option'. I have been watching Thomas County Central High run the split-back veer for 17 years.....and they have also run the shot-gun variant that WVU uses the last couple of seasons as well....but never as the base offense. The base has always been the split-back version. The Veer was good for 5 AAA titles during the 90s, and it also produced former GT running back Joe Burns.....who couldn't get into UGA because of grades..go figure.
