Schedule isn't as tough as you think when you look

Exception. The schedule IS as tough as it is cracked up to be. Make no mistake; it is a very tough schedule. Very, very tough. These days, even the best SEC teams don't breeze through their games w/ the Vanderbilts and Kentuckys. Those are tough games nowadays as we noted last year.

Here's the way I see it(for what it's worth)..........from a SKILLS standpoint, I don't see the schedule as being extremely tough. Only one team can match up with us from the skill positions and that's UF.

Now, that being said, I think the schedule is absolutely BRUTAL from a PHYSICAL standpoint. When you play USC, Ala, UT, LSU, UF, AU and GT in one season, now from a physical standpoint THAT my friends is an unbelievable TOUGH schedule. Right there lies my concerns.

wlayton, you have hit the nail on the head. Could not agree more. It is PHYSICAL AND BRUTAL. Sometimes games are not won on skill alone. You are right about UF. Both you and I living here know that UF is loaded. Must say that I am glad that they are running the spread, with our linebacking core, makes me feel better about Jacksonville. Same thing with Auburn, new offense, lot of good athletes, just like the way that UGA is countering. Damn, could say much, just looking forward to another SEC season. Go Dawgs.

That and the travel. Good lord, the travelling four weeks in a row, including going to LSU, to ASU, and to Jacksonville...Jeez Louise! That's why I said the toughest part of the ASU game would be the trip there. It's going to be brutal, but Richt teams are historically road warriors and this year should be no different. You can bet HinnyBoy's yellow-and-black stockings that if we're worried about the road trips, then CMR and staff are as well, and will be preparing those boys for life on the road. GO DAWGS!!!

Buc, I agree with you on the \"spread\" offense. I mentioned a few weeks ago that \"new\" systems are usually good for a while but then are figured out how to defend them. SPEED \"kills\" a spread offense and I'm with you, our D is VERY fast and physical. That's the only way to counter that offense in my opinion. We have to stay healthy on the D.

I disagree on the assesment of the schedule. I think this is the toughest schedule we have had since the mid 80s. LSU and Florida back-to-back? That could be a real butt-kicker right there. South Carolina always plays us like it's the SEC title game, and they will be better on defense with the return of J Brinkley from knee surgery. We have really laid an egg against Tennessee the last 2 seasons, and when was the last time UGA or Auburn won 3 straight in the series? Their spread offense is new for them, but the spread is actually an old offense that just came back around, like just about everything else does in college football. The NFL has been using variations of the spread since the 1950s. IMO, this schedule is a great big briar patch just waiting to rip the britches off of us. If we don't keep our heads wired on right, we could be looking at a couple of losses. Alabama played us tough last year, and they will be better this season. We have a big question mark with Arizona St, AND we have to play them out there to boot. In short, we can afford 1 loss, to a West opponent, but there is no way we can afford an East loss. UGA vs UF will likely decide the East.
