Sometimes when there is not a lot of news about the Dawgs, just want to give some of my personal feelings.
We have spent quite a bit of time on this board and others, newspapers and the media as a whole discussing the upcoming schedule that UGA will be playing.
It is awesome to say the least, some have said that it is the toughest in the country. If not, can't be too far away from being ranked in the top five, at this point. Can never be sure just how the early rankings of teams play out once the season starts. Some start strong and then have problems and slide quickly in the wrong direction.
Often I think back to what the Vols did to us last year and the way this group of athletes and coaches turned a new leaf soon after that game. Sometimes it takes a loss such as that one to either make or break a season or seasons. We all know now what happened after the Tennessee game, and how the picture has changed vividly.
UGA is being picked by many to be one of, if not the best team in the nation. Folks, that encompasses a lot of football teams, teams that have a lot of history and also some great recruits headed their way.
So my thoughts right now are these . . .
We are now truly moving into the elite class of college football teams. Not saying that we have not been there before, have been. Just feel that UGA has taken a step forward and will not return to less than excellence. We have been there for many years with swimming, baseball, gymnastics, and maybe someday . . . basketball. Think we moved forward this year in the basketball area.
I am excited about the fact that we are not playing a powder-puff schedule. We truly are not playing an easy schedule, impossible to be a part of the SEC and have an easy row to hoe.
UGA is going to win football games, and as these young Dawgs grow in experience, they will only get better. At this point, I don't believe that we will have those down years again, and there are reasons for that. The coaching staff in place at UGA has finally come together as a unit. The top athletes in Georgia are not leaving to cross over the state lines and turn their backs on UGA. The group that I see assembled wearing the Red and Black, and those that are heading to Athens are far and above what I have witnessed in many years of UGA football. I care deeply for the University and for the young folks that choose to wear our colors.
