I think I understand what you are trying to say.
I agree and here’s why.
Stafford’s stats for the year are considered average (at best) when compared to other Div. 1 QBs. Although Stafford has had some great games, he has also laid eggs. I looked up his efficiency rating for each game and it’s all over the place:
• Week 1 = 184 (won big)
• Week 2 = 79 (loss to SC)
• Week 3 = 176 (won big)
• Week 4 = 115 (vs. Bama, won in OT)
• Week 5 = 135 (vs. Ole’ Miss)
• Week 6 = 106 (loss to Vols)
• Week 7 = 116 (won squeeker vs. Vandy)
• Week 8 = 206 (vs. UF, won big)
• Week 9 = 137 (won vs. Troy)
• Week 10 = 187 (won big vs. Aub.)
• Week 11 = 74 (could have easily lost to KY)
Now consider that 170 and above is great! So he had 4 great games.
135 to 169 is good to very good so he has 2 there.
115 to 134 is a average to below average and he has 2 of those.
Below 115 is not good and he has 1 of those.
And he has 2 games in the 70’s which is bottom-feeder horrible!!
If you look at the games he played well, the Dawgs won big.
In the close ones, he was just average.
In the losses he was not good to flat out horrid.
So, I definitely agree that Stafford can not be counted on to win a game on his shoulders. If the Dawgs are rolling, he will too. If the Dawgs are struggling, don’t look to Stafford to bail them out. I don’t think he’ll cost the Dawgs any games but I don’t know that he can win them on his own either. I just noticed that he was the No. 1 QB coming out of highschool before last season according to Rivals.com. Tebow was 3rd behind Mitch Mustain.
