yankeedawg1, there are several coaches that I am very "high" on in Athens. Figure many members are also pleased with. Hard not to recognize "talent". Over the years we read clippings about great players and their accomplishments. Takes me to this . . . . Many young men work their way through athletics and book work and come away from Athens much differently than when they arrived. Not all, would venture to say most.
Little doubt that Coach Sam Pittman meets and greets these young pups both before, during and after they depart Athens. X's and O's are not just figures of speech that apply to athletics, also applies to life skills. Sam Pittman knows that, respects both the process and the individual. Pittman is not the only coach that lives by this process, that is shown in our program and its upsurge since Smart and Company arrived.
Coaching these young men up is not always easy or pretty, but like most NASCAR races, winner(s) are announced after time on the track. Maybe not a good comparison, however I am one that believes that coaching them up is a special talent that "not all are blessed with".
Check the number of players lining up for their drive blocks . . . . as mentioned by Ben Cleveland, depth is not missing from the Sam Pittman coached offensive line. Every one of the young men could start at a major college somewhere. Guess there is a reason they continue to wear the Red and Black.
