Good Morning All,

Skip the April fool jokes…. We had too many years of them and they covered longer periods of time than one day….moving on appreciatively

In at least four different articles I read about our football program this week the topic of leadership was addressed…

IMHO…leadership is a learned skill…. Many have become rich selling seminars ,books ,and videos on how best to learn and practice leadership….

You can get all the information and buzz words on leadership but if you don’t have the respect and belief of those you are trying to lead…game over…. Crash and burn failure…..

Much like how you learn to lay brick or any other trade…. It is a process…. One small step at a time… learning
from your mistakes and growing with the experience…

CKS called out seeking leadership in our players….. Younger guys just feeling their way…upper classmen never exposed to or have demands made by previous coaches to step up and learn what it all about… now we have a void that we are trying to fill and put a program in place that will prevent this from happening in the future…

Watching our HC in practice…. Always moving you can see the wheels in his mind turning….. Leadership by example…. The very best kind….

You listen to him speak…his choice of words leads to respect…. Easy to understand… not looking to impress with flowering verbiage….. And not a word of coach speak….. This drives the media heads crazy…. They are looking for 500 words or more CKS says it in 5 and moves on…..

Watching our HC play the heads is like watching a boxer working a speed bag…. Pouty is behind and falling further behind with each practice….. dunce…. With no clue….

HC saw some toughness from our pups in practice….. had not heard that word used about the Dawgs in many seasons….. just a start but none the less progress in the right direction….

It is official…. Finish the Drill has been replaced with “Attack the Day”

It was started by S & C coach during the winter workouts….. just get better today than you were yesterday…. Don’t think about anything else but what is in front of you for the current day….. I like it !!!

Flashback…. 2015… CJP….. asked the players… Who is going to start the fire ???

HC…2016….. “ Who is going to make the practice highlight film”….

Must be something learned in Tuscaloosa…. Me thinks both are asking the same question…… who is going to show some leadership today??

Been a while since I asked that we thank a Vet….. never can express enough gratitude to the folks who serve…
and their families …. Thanks !

Enjoy the Final Four….. Masters coming up….

Pause and give thanks

Have a great weekend and a safe week

As always “Go Dawgs”

I think that Nick Chubb has already shown that he is a good leader, the example he sets should be plenty of motivation for the vets and the new recruits. Through his efforts to get ready for the season ahead of time he has proven how tough he is, now he needs to say "follow me", although his actions speak much louder than words.

That is the kind of leadership that gets results!

GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The sun shines on a different Dawg every day

Agree Growl....NC has leadership by example....HC is trying to bring him out to be more vocal

I remember TG3 and the Vol game here when he had his coming out as a vocal leader on the sidelines as we were in one of our funks.... Hung on to win by 3 but TG 3 took big steps

Have a great weekend. Go Dawgs

Really agree with growl. Nick Chubb is a leader by example.

For some reason I am thinking that Kirby Smart is looking for someone on the defense to step up. Kirby had Reggie Ragland in Alabama and Ragland in my opinion is what held the defense together in the National Championship game against Clemson.

Little doubt that there has to be someone on the defense that reflects some of what Ragland did for Smart in Tuscaloosa.

Lorenzo Carter is a gifted football player. Not only physically, mentally. I believe that Kirby Smart will push Carter's buttons as never before. Jeremy Pruitt understood the "gifts" that the good Lord gave Lorenzo, he also knew that Carter needed to grow up. Sometimes talent alone does not mean a lot of playing time on Saturdays. The coaches that studied under Saban are still a part of the "system" although they are now elsewhere. Smart knows that being successful in the SEC "requires" outstanding defenses. Someone is needed in Athens to do what Reggie Ragland and others have done while playing football in Alabama. Just another change that Smart will make in Athens . . . . someone will step up. Bet that.

Find it interesting that Derek Dooley says Kirby Smart did a "smart" thing in hiring offensive coordinator and offensive line coach basically at the same time. Comparison Derek Dooley makes is that he and Muschamp failed to do the same when first being hired as head coaches. Not a shot at DD, just goes to show the nine years that Smart spent with Saban was another lesson learned. Dooley and Muschamp both come from the Saban coaching tree, one difference . . . . Time spent with Saban.

Muschamp got a second chance, now in Columbia. Left a very good situation in Texas before he was ready to take on the skills of coaching an entire team. Defensively, he is very good. While in Florida, failed miserably on the offensive side of the ball. Will see how much he learned about overall team management in his second attempt.

Dooley, not sure he will get another college head coaching job. His Dad, VD, also made several bad decisions, worst of which was not wanting Erk to take over at UGA. Never was there a doubt that Erk wanted to become the head coach in Athens. Left UGA and in my mind and way of thinking, did an incredible job at Georgia Southern. I still pull for the Eagles.

Back to Kirby Smart.
