yd1, your post #73049, really like the way you laid your thoughts out.
Sometimes what we think we see does not meet the true test. Look closer, shiny objects can be deceiving.
First few years after the calendar turned to the 2000's, we were greeted with a smile, shiny new head coach. Lord knows it was needed, from a coaching standpoint and a moral standpoint.
Seems to me that the moral standpoint was taken a bit too far in a direction that did not stand up to time. That statement can be backed up easily when we look at "some" of the "problems" that we got to see, but there were many that we were not privy to.
My opinion the "dry rot" had been in our program prior to the Richt hiring. Really started to get out of hand with the "Red Undies" incident by the Athletic Director after the Richt hiring.
Again my opinion . . . . Our program was being handled by a group of folks that did not recognize the "dry rot". Or, refused to move from wood to different materials that replaced the "dry rot" problem.
Differences of opinion as to what year(s) our program became outdated under Richt. Regardless of which year one chooses, much like the boll weevil once ruined crops in South Georgia, there needed to be a change or fix. Has been said here that empty seats were beginning to become more apparent. Some higher ups sat on the fact that all was ok, but all was not ok. Again, money has a way of getting every ones attention. Butts in the seats were discussed on Dawgs.com several years back.
Guess the question is whether or not we will see improvement in the direction of Georgia Football . . . . mention only football because it is the Bell Cow, Golden Goose our program and many others.
Side note . . . . Believe I read somewhere that Alabama Sports profited 51 or so million dollars this past season. Maybe I dreamed that, will check after I post this. So, Alabama understood dry rot, and boll weevils. Kirby Smart had nine years under the man that turned that program around again . . . . the Bear did that once upon a time. Seven (7) million dollar investment and the numbers from the football program basically turned into 50 something million.
Realize I am all over the place again, but . . . . old folks like myself have had enough of waiting for those that supposedly run the sports programs in Athens to show improvement. They expect improvement on the football field, might want to do some "house cleaning" at the upper levels. I said that. I believe that.
