Monday Thought -- Coach Smart is Serious

Realize that I along with others on Dawgs.com have been on the stump about the offensive line. That did not start today, has been one of the most discussed areas of our team for years.

Damn, maybe stevedawg should get some type of fee/pay for being in the front of what was and is still needed in Athens. Other sites? Paid sites want to sell what has been free here for years.

How many times has it been posted here that the “play starts with the snap”? Many.

While Dawgs.com does not have a seat in Butts-Mehre, maybe that should be considered. . . .

Moving forward, looking at the “few” that have been recruited and those that will be recruited, seems progress is being made. Talking about the offensive line.

Simple fact . . . . these young talented running backs and quarterbacks stand a greater chance of producing statistics that those in the NFL look closely at if they have a good/great offensive line to line up with. For sure Kirby Smart is trying to do everything he can to protect Jacob Eason. I would too, if I were the head coach. Build that offensive line, good/great quarterbacks and running backs will follow. These young men understand that.

There is some talk about whether or not Jacob Eason will start in 2016. Bet this . . . . Coach Smart will make damn sure Eason will have protection, the others will also.

Kirby Smart is just this, and I have said it a time or two . . . . football smart, sharp as a tack. Kirby Smart has a plan, and it is underway. Coach Smart knows exactly what he has in Athens, and also knows what he wants in Athens. Smart is not throwing in the towel in the 2016 Season, he is simply being honest to himself and those that he has surrounded himself with.

Have read some posts elsewhere, some are already playing a silly game. Meaning . . . . Kirby Smart saying that those in Athens are not what he wants. That folks is Bull Spit. This group of offensive coaches will get the absolute maximum out of the talent, and we have talent, that has been with UGA from day one in Athens. Smart is doing nothing other than laying out his game plan. Game plan that has been non-existent between the Hedges for years. Mahogany Row was quick to move forward on the Kirby Smart hire, finally some common sense from those that have not used the same for years.

I believe that we will see our offensive line performing like never before, especially under the previous group led by Richt. The one offensive line coach that I believe to be one of the best, Coach Friend, left Georgia and is now in Colorado. I also believe that Coach Will Friend understood that the leadership in Athens that he served under was not going anywhere. Mike Bobo also saw the handwriting on the wall. The beginning of the end for Mark Richt in Athens, yes I stand by that.

Chirping a lot and this is one of the reasons . . . . the bleeding hearts are still out there, and as Wartdawg and others have said, waiting to pounce.

There is a group on Dawgs.com that welcome that "back and forth". Also noticed that the "bleeding hearts group" seems to be fading.

Again, stuff that I think about.

Go Dawgs . . . . You will be coached up . . . . fact. Remember Kirby Smart arriving late in Macon, Georgia? Those that want to play between the Hedges . . . . message sent.

I think there's something else that this little Macon incident reveals, and of course, no one is mentioning anything about it because Lord forbid there be criticism of our saintly former coach. But I think this event is much more meaningful than it is getting credit for...

Why isn't anyone asking the obvious? WHY were these guys half-assing it in the weight room?

Answer: because that level of effort has been ingrained in players' minds as being good enough for years now; just give an acceptable effort.

That rotten football culture is in the process of being evicted from Athens. Again, I go back to my beaten old dead horse on the side of the road - culture. Ya'll are probably sick of hearing it by now, but it keeps popping its ugly head up again, and again, and again as the seminal problem down from which all other problems flow. It illustrates very clearly why we have had the problems we have had over the years, including (but not limited to) squandered talent, year after year after year.

Kirby right now is as much diagnostician as he is head coach, maybe even more so right in the early years of the Smart era. And so far, I am very impressed with the level of detail that he is eyeballing.

First off, said it before, more than once. Don't go anywhere. Thanks.

You said, and I really like this particular "word" that you used above.

Kirby right now is as much diagnostician as he is head coach, maybe even more so right in the early years of the Smart era. And so far, I am very impressed with the level of detail that he is eyeballing.

And this . . . .

Why isn't anyone asking the obvious? WHY were these guys half-assing it in the weight room?

Report from Florida . . . .

There is a lot of talk about keeping Smart and Company out of the Sunshine State. Yes, I have gator friends, FSU and Miami also.

Kirby Smart and Company have the attention of the head coaches in Florida. Most of the talk at this point is from the gator folks. Easy to understand their concern, SEC East.

Looking out two or three years, there are going to be some "wars" in the SEC East. Actually, I like it.

Goes back to understanding building a "team".

Jimbo Fisher understands. Jim McElwain understands. Cannot speak about the "U" as yet. Lot of talent in South Florida, that however does not produce the results that many want from their football team. Many of us have been down that path.

SouthernDawg, you understanding Florida, makes this site better. Florida is loaded with talent, Georgia is loaded with talent. Guess it comes down to "coaching them up".

Good read sir.

Wartdawg, when I read your post, first thought that came to me was . . . . your Father. Can only imagine how tough he would be to arm wrestle.

Kirby Smart . . . . allow me this . . . . KNOWS.

He got a "degree" that few can get.

Nine years under Nick Saban.

I often think about that for this reason . . . . Kirby Smart nine years back "understood" the meaning of mortar and block.

I also appreciate averagedawg not moving left or right about the decision to hire a "D1 Football Coach". averagedawg was adamant . . . . and right.

While I chirp a lot, there is so much talent here that should be recognized.

Go Dawgs :)
