The Nick Saban Process Explained

I don't like Jeff Shultz but this article quotes Smart directly. I think it is telling. The quote that stands out to me is ib bold faced and it concerns Mahagony Rd. I may be too optimistic and wrong here, but I believe the boys in suits will open up a litle with the purse strings because the next people to get fired if it doesn't work out will be then.

Here is the telling quote from Smart: So why can’t everybody do it? Are Saban’s methods that complicated, or is he just smarter than everybody else?

“It’s really hard work, and it’s a grind,” Smart said. “It’s having the full support of the athletic department and the president and an unlimited budget to get what you need. He gets every competitive advantage that he can think of.”

I personally think Smart told them to screw him coming over if he couldn't get what he wanted. However, if the purse strings don't open, we will not achieve Bama status. If the strings open, look for several national titles over a decade. Muschamp could out recruit Richt in Atlanta, but not a chance in hell he will out recruit Smart in Smart's home state. Auburn is in disarray. Bama will still get Atlanta players but instead of geting 4 or so, they will get 2 or so.

If the suits give him what he wants, we rill Roll Dawgs

BulldogShannon,

Great post. If the folks with the checkbooks got their feelings a little hurt of Pruitt's complaint of not having indoor practice facilities, their heads are going to spin when they are faced with what Kirby is going to demand out of them.

It's going to be revealed very quickly if UGA is an institution that wants to truly represent the "elite" title so often gifted to them by the media. Every aspect of the money spent at Bama results in amazing returns in recruiting, and in turn, on field performance.

Not to mention gate receipts . . . . Spend seven, return is seventeen. ;)

Facilities matter.
Salaries matter.
When Kirby succeeds he will get a major contract revision.

Saban's method has never been a huge mystery. Be involved in everything, demand excellence, pay attention to every detail. That and get what you say you need has been the method for years.

Not a Fort Knox guarded secret anymore than it's not a secret in how many of those areas we fell short.

Be involved in everything, and pay attention to detail? Check and check... remember when our former coach said he was going to look into that kicking thing? Remember when he said he may step in on other areas of ST? Remember when he stepped away from the D? Remember after he left him saying he sort of regretted turning more than one thing over to others? QB coaching and development...

Demand excellence? Check... Our main mission seemed to be making sure players knew we would still love them when they failed. We "wanted to win" but losing was okay was the overarching message.

Demand what you need? It took a coach from the Saban tree coming here via FSU to have the nads to step out and demand an IPF. Despite having all this supposed clout as the longest tenured coach and all those wins, our coach seemed content to just take what was given. It took him well over a decade to finally say something about his assistant's pay.

Nope... no secrets surrounding the success of one program

OR the shortcomings of another.

God Bless and Go Dawgs

IPF...

I know absolutely nothing about the politics in the Georgia athletic department. I do know how shet gets funded and built, and would be shocked if jp had any influence on it. Imho...
